Start menu (whisker) "Super up" as shortcut?

Post by MintKing »

The default shortcut is Super (Windows key) down, so it conflicts with other Super combinations such as Super + Space. I could change the start menu's shortcut from Super to something else, such as Super + S, but it is not as convenient. Other desktop environments such as KDE or Windows takes Super up as the shortcut so it works with Super combinations.

Is that possible with Mint XFCE's start menu? Or is it the only solution to use a Super + some other key shortcut for the start menu?

Greetings, and Happy Holidays for you!

This shortcut-behavior is a (possibly ancient) "feature" of xfce. See bugreport @ https://bugzilla.xfce.org/show_bug.cgi?id=7845 and a quick-fix workaround using the "xcape" utility @ https://forum.xfce.org/viewtopic.php?pid=49054#p49054

My own workaround: i've assigned my keyboards' "Menu" key to popup the whisker-menu, and "super_R+menu" to popup xfce's native menu. Perhaps when xfce 4.14 is being released (next spring, maybe?) this quirk will finally be fixed/put to rest...

Cheers, m4a

Thank you sir or madam.
I chose to use the first method,

Code: Select all

xcape -e 'Super_L=Alt_L|F1'
Not that difficult and it worked.
Have nice holidays and the year's end.
