In both Xubuntu 18.04, Linux Mint 19.x (And maybe 18.3 Xfce) Xfce Linux crashed.
This is the first time (minus user error) that I had to do a hard boot. This effected two computers. Both are dell different models.
I can't figure if was an opera browser issue or a kernel issue.
I said maybe on 18.3, I was using Opera and it froze. It eventually unfroze and I was watching dailymotion or youtube. I wasn't visiting bad sites.
Inspiron-15-3552 4.15.0-43-generic #46~16.04.1-Ubuntu SMP x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux
I also had other issues with 19.x xfce in both systems, so I restored my system back to 18.3 and got rid of Xubuntu 18.04
Is Linux Mate similar to xfce? Is it based of Gnome? What Linux mint Xfce based on?

Re: mysterious crashing
Sounds like a video/kernel problem. Can you post the results of this:
Mint 19.x uses the same release of XFCE as Xubuntu 18.04. Since development in XFCE is really slow, the version used in Mint 18.3 probably isn't that much older. As light-weight as XFCE is, I find it puzzling that you're having so many hard crashes. For me, XFCE is the only DE that's never hard-crashed (except for an ill-fated experiment with BTRFS).

Re: mysterious crashing
Is this only happening in Opera? Can you repeat the error with certain website content? What about Firefox/Chromium?
Re: mysterious crashing
I forgot about one thing. It did effect google chrome browser in both 18.3 but more so in 19.x This also applies to Xubuntu 18.04.ajgringo619 wrote: ⤴Thu Jan 10, 2019 5:55 pm Is this only happening in Opera? Can you repeat the error with certain website content? What about Firefox/Chromium?
It did crash on other website but there just news site (Not the ones with the bad ads). It could also be flash plug-in conflict. There is a new update for flash, that just came out.
I already tested installing old kernels but that didn't work. Still crashed. I am using Firefox to post this.
Re: [Solved] mysterious crashing
I marked this thread solved. I really think gksu not being install caused the crashing with some driver. As I said in other post, I got gksu installed. So far Linux mint xfce 19.1 (clean install) hasn't crashed.
However, I may try an experiment by installing lxqt-sudo in xubuntu. Haven't decided yet if I want to install xubuntu 18.04 again.
