Flaky system crashes all the time

Post by thatsafact »

Finally noticed why my computer randomly stops doing whatever it is up to and resets itself, X server crashes. Any ideas?

Not having good experience with new laptop, very flaky see viewtopic.php?f=46&t=287104 for recent history.

Re: Flaky system crashes all the time

Post by Pjotr »

Please generate an overview of your system like this:
- Launch a terminal window (this is how to launch a terminal window);
- make the terminal window full screen, to avoid chopped lines;
- Copy/paste this command into the terminal:

Code: Select all

inxi -Fxz
(if you type: the letter F is a capital letter)

Press Enter.

Copy/paste the output in your next message.

Try this:
Update Manager - panel: View - Linux kernels
Install the latest kernel from the 4.18 series. Then reboot.

Thanks for the suggestion. Was unable to copy ~982 GB of files from backup drive due to this issue. Just updated the kernel and am trying the file copy again. Will post again if I am able to get all the files without the X server crash.
