Why Xfce desktop doesn't refresh after update?
When i copy image from "user/share/backgrounds" to desktop, sometimes i have thumbnails and sometimes i don't.
I must press CTRL+R to refresh desktop every time, to be able to see all thumbnails.
I use my desktop as a working area, and i must see what im doing imidiately.
How to fix this?

Re: Why Xfce desktop doesn't refresh after update?
Make sure you have tumbler for images installed for that. Also even though you didn't ask, make sure you have ffmegthumbnailer installed for videos thumbnails to show. I found both of those are missing from Linux mint 19.1
Re: Why Xfce desktop doesn't refresh after update?
Strange i have Linux Mint 19.1. and i have tumbler and tumbler-common installed.
I dont have "ffmegthumbnailer"?
Are you sure that this don't came preinstaled?

xplayer provides the default video thumbnailer in Mint.
For custom Nemo actions, useful scripts for the Cinnamon desktop, and Cinnamox themes visit my Github pages.

Well it seems that tumbler doesn't refresh desktop always.
I aded right click menu for refreshing desktop, because this is only what working for now.
Is there some settings for tumbler or someting?

Re: Why Xfce desktop doesn't refresh after update?
Well i tried to install and i get: "tumbler is already the newest version (0.2.1-0ubuntu1)." So i have that installed by default.
Did you tried to copy-paste images to desktop? Does every image shows?
Re: Why Xfce desktop doesn't refresh after update?
Yes, I copied and pasted them from the backup I had on an external book drive. Without tumbler only a few showed. When I installed tumbler they all showed after a re-boot.
Re: Why Xfce desktop doesn't refresh after update?
from where you installed tumbler?
Can you check version you have?

I've just fired up XFCE 19.1 in virtualbox and initially observed the behaviour you reported. Toggling between the thumbnail settings in The File manager settings seems to have cured it.

As a note on thumbnailers I note that
tumbler-plugins-extra
isn't installed by default in XFCE and brings in libffmpegthumbnailer amongst a few other image format thumbnailers. But I don't seem to have any issues with movie thumbnails in XFCE without it.For custom Nemo actions, useful scripts for the Cinnamon desktop, and Cinnamox themes visit my Github pages.
Re: Why Xfce desktop doesn't refresh after update?
Didn't resolve anything, i turned thumbnails off and on in file manager, deleted /.cache/thumbnails also /home/user/.thumbnails.smurphos wrote: ⤴Mon May 27, 2019 12:54 am @mire000

Then i installed "tumber-plugins-extra" , nothing changes. Again some thumbnails shows on desktop and some don't untill i refresh dekstop with CTRL+R.
But if you observed, when you turn off thumbnails in file manger, thumbnails are still appearing on desktop.
So file manager doesn't affect desktop. And this is where i have problem, with desktop.
*** How to easely reproduce this > make empty text file on desktop, and then in file manager go to same file, and with right click add emblem.
You will notice that emblem wasn't added on desktop untill you do CTRL+R. Desktop doesn't refresh after file is updated.
Re: Why Xfce desktop doesn't refresh after update?
Sorry it took so long to reply because I never received a notification that there was a new post. I installed tumbler from the Linux mint Software Manager. I have tumbler 0.2.1-0ubuntu1. I forgot to tell you that I also installed Tumbler-plugins-extra version 0.2.1-0ubuntu1.
Re: Why Xfce desktop doesn't refresh after update?
Thanks Crippled. I didn't resolve this yet.
After desktop fail to show thumbnail, 'mouse animation' also stops working for some reason. I see animation still working on taskbar but when i move mouse to desktop it doesn't show animated circle. When i kill 'xfdesktop', after that animation works again..
Does anyone have solution?

Re: Why Xfce desktop doesn't refresh after update?
O.K. That's strange about the mouse doing that. Sounds like they may know here https://forum.xfce.org/ or sometimes here https://www.linuxquestions.org/questions/ .mire000 wrote: ⤴Wed May 29, 2019 8:51 am Thanks Crippled. I didn't resolve this yet.

Re: Why Xfce desktop doesn't refresh after update?
I found someting about "busy mouse pointer" here> viewtopic.php?t=126919 , but no, this is not the right answer, i have animation always, on every app. ( i also enabled "StartupNotify=true" for every app like sugested) but animation suddenly stop working by itself.
Also this thumbnails sometimes shows on desktop and sometimes just stop working.
After i restart "xfdesktop" all works again, until happen again.. So i must keep restarting desktop..
This is totaly strange..

Re: Why Xfce desktop doesn't refresh after update?
Do you have Compositing enabled? If not, enable it in "Window Manager Tweaks" Also try playing with the settings in there because some of those settings can do weird things.
Re: Why Xfce desktop doesn't refresh after update?
Yes i have compositing enabled, i tried compton, tried to disable that also. I will try to play more with these settings..
Re: Why Xfce desktop doesn't refresh after update?
When this happen , "xfdesktop" stops, and i have new process in task manager : "xfdesktop--display :O.O --sm-client-id2736de6e6-c332-4400-88ec-00da601c830a".
What this mean, crash or someting?

Re: Why Xfce desktop doesn't refresh after update?
I don't know. That's above my knowledge. I am wondering if you have two applications conflicting with each other because of the way Xfce is acting. Or you have an incompatible application. Has it been giving trouble since day one?
