[SOLVED] Scaling and window title still small

Post by milasx »

Hello,

In 20.1 Xfce I have scaled my desktop x2: everything appears to have scaled except the title and buttons of the windows. Is this a known bug?

Thanks

On a similar note the scanner application for my Epson printer is not scaling with error:

Code: Select all

Failed to load module "xapp-gtk3-module"
I wonder if it is related.

That error should be fixed very soon, if it's not already sitting in the Update Manager.

Let us know when the update stops that error if you still have the other issue.

Yes the

Code: Select all

Failed to load module "xapp-gtk3-module"
error is now gone but the title are still not scaled and some apps do not scale at all.

I think that might be a qt/GTK2 issue for the latter part. Which apps aren't scaling at all?

For the Windows buttons issue, what have you got selected in Menu > Settings > Desktop Settings for the Window Manager?

Probably yes a qt issue, the Epson scanner utility which I know uses qt.

The windows manager was:
Xfwm4 + Compositing
I tried them all and Compiz is the only one working correctly, I can use that for now.

Thanks!

With respect to other apps not scaling (Zoom is another one) I wonder if there is a solution. Under Pop OS (Gnome) they scale OK so this seems to be an issue with Mint or Xfce. Any ideas?

Thanks!

See this post: https://forum.xfce.org/viewtopic.php?id=14447

I'm betting the info from ToZ there is related to your issue.

Thank you - yes it must be that. So it means that in Pop OS the configuration to scale is already present - to be precise in Pop OS I am using fractal scaling and I have not seen any app not scaling so far.

I have found info on another post and this seems to do the trick for VLC:

Code: Select all

QT_AUTO_SCREEN_SCALE_FACTOR=0 QT_SCREEN_SCALE_FACTORS=1 QT_SCALE_FACTOR=2
Thanks!

You're welcome.

I just recently switched from 18.3 to 19.3 and had an issue with the window titles myself. A quick trip to Menu > Settings > Window Manager and adjusting the title font size was all I needed. Took me a while to find that again though. Too many appearance settings are scattered all over the menu.

Thank you! The killer for me was the fact that not all the apps can be scaled / different toolkits take different variables.

I also use POP_OS! and they support fractal scaling which works with all the apps, I wonder how they manage to do that.

Yeah, that's why I like using themes developed by the forum user smurphos (absent lately) who does a good job of covering many bases

That one I have no idea about. But I've always used the default scaling and adapt font sizes and such to my liking, so I've never needed to look into it at all. I thought it was mostly just xrandr commands doing most of the work, but could be way off base there.
