XFCE vs. TLP power managers: friends or enemies? [SOLVED]

Post by spamhog »

https://linrunner.de/tlp/

I want to install TLP because it offers a few features missing from XFCE,
mainly, enforcing % cap on battery charging at least on some laptop models
and high performance vs power saving.

At the moment I mostly keep the battery out of my notebook, charged to 50-60%.
On the alternative OS the battery charge could be set to maximum or protective.

I see that the XFCE power manager and the TLP power manager touch some of the same settings.

In non-Mint forums I see conflicting opinions on whether the two coexist or conflict.

Any recent news or experience :?:

Should xfce-power-manager be disabled when using TLP :?:

In doubt, I'll wait.

[Ulyssa 20.1, xfce4-power-manager 1.6, the available tlp is at 1.3.1]

FWIW I have no problem at all running both tlp and powertop with either xfce4-power-manager or on lxqt with lxqt-powermanagement.

Thank you manyroads! For everyone's info, powertop is a comprehensive originally Intel power management CLI app around since 2008, should work on most chips (I had never heard of it before today! :o ), tlp seems broadly similar in spirit, tlpui is a GUI front end for tlp, still somewhat experimental.
