Mint 20.1 XFCE
Using vertical deskbar, text appears right from the icons. Can't read it anyway, want to get rid of it, can't find it. Never had this before on previous versions.

Do you have the "traditional/modern" choice in Mint Welcome Screen like I do in Cinnamon?

There was a welcome screen I clicked away. I'll have to check if there's more on it than just "welcome".
