I have less than 1GB of disk space left on my primary drive, and considering to switch to Xfce.
I saw this thread:
viewtopic.php?f=57&t=341906
But it does not really answer my question. (I definitely won't fit both...)
How much space would it free up? Or do I need to reinstall everything?
Plan B would be to move half of the current installation to another drive. Primary is 29GB, secondary is 121GB (net size).
Ideas?

Re: Replacing Mate with Xfce?
Have you identified the files filling the drive?
wht you are needing to free.
How many Timeshift restore points do you have?
This in itself will not save much less space--and nothing close toconsidering to switch to Xfce
wht you are needing to free.

Re: Replacing Mate with Xfce?
3-2 = 15GB - (2GB + 2GB) ~ 11GB Total Timeshift, means approximately 4GB more space. Maybe only 2GB - I know my system - I don't know yours, I can't know how many kernels and applications you have loaded.
By the way: the idea of gaining space with the additional installation of Xfce is kind of original. I guess the result of MATE + Xfce - MATE should be about 0...

Re: Replacing Mate with Xfce?
Is there a way to put the timeshifts onto another drive?
Re: Replacing Mate with Xfce?
Yes...just ensure the drive is connected completely..ensure it can be mounted in your file manager aka ready for use. and within Timeshift just navigate to Settings, then select Location and select that drive ( you may have to left click on the small drop down arrow to enable it to show the selectable ( circle) under that to actually be able to select the drive.
** Ensure that drive is already formated to ext4 or there's a chance it won't work be it the backup..OR restoration ***
Unless you're diligent about monitoring your timeshift snapshot backups as far as not letting a bunch pile up ( which can consume a lot of space before you realize it), I recommend disabling automatic snapshot backups and just keep up with doing them manually .
