Configure xfce4-terminal in Mint 7 Gloria [SOLVED!]

Post by blindjoy » Tue Dec 08, 2009 5:16 pm

How do I configure the xfce4-terminal in Mint 7 Gloria?

Specifically:
1) I want to change the font and font size.
2) I want to remove the terminal startup funny message
3) I want to change the contents of the prompt on each line.
4) I want to change the colors in the prompt.
5) I want to change the launch size of the terminal window.

Where are the configuration files or configuration programs for the xfce4-terminal?

I am new to Mint having used it for 4 days now so be detailed on what command to use and the full path to files.

Thank you for your help.

5) I want to change the launch size of the terminal window.
Change it to what you want by dragging corners, then it should save that when you leave and relaunch.

Enough. Enough. I'll let you search that one yourself. Google is your friend.

Thanks lagagon for the quick response.

The Fortune messages are gone now!!!

I had to use:
sudo mousepad /etc/bash.bashrc

instead of
gksu gedit /etc/bash.bashrc

as this Mint 7 install includes "mousepad" instead of "gedit".

I made an icon for Terminal on my XFCE Desktop using appfinder, and I resize the window to about 72x51 every time, but it doesn't remember the changes. I googled and poked around, saw that maybe there was a bug in certain versions of xfce4 where it didn't remember the window size, but I am unsure if the bug applies to me. I am running Linux Mint 7 Gloria XFCE CE.

Sooo, I too would love it if I could launch my xfce4-terminal and have the window be a certain size every time.

Thanks!

OK, I didn't find what to edit in order to launch xfce4-terminal from the Desktop with a certain window size, but I did find the XFCE .desktop files and I was able to edit those for the 2 Terminal menu entries. Also, I made a keyboard shortcut to launch it. If you append --geometry XXxYY to it it works, like this:

Code: Select all

xfce4-terminal --geometry 80x38
