[SOLVED] top corners rounded no matter what

Post by begtognen »

OS: Linux Mint 21 XFCE (brand new install)

I'd like the top corners of my theme to be sharp, instead of rounded. I've tried various themes that are meant to have sharp corners, but they continue to be rounded.

In another forum post (viewtopic.php?t=380535) I saw: "Check contents of the file /home/user/.config/gtk-3.0/gtk.css. Do you have any custom entries there for appearance?" I don't have a gtk.css file in the gtk-3.0 directory. The same forum post recommended trying the Mint yz theme, but the corners are still rounded.

Happy to answer any questions, and thanks very much for your help.

I tried check xubuntu-18.04 and I don't see option.
In Mate graphic desktop environment I can change corners with title-buttons.
So you can try change ready theme or edit existing theme.

I'm not sure, editing a topic / theme can be dangerous / can broke your system,
So please test on a separate user account or on a separate system in a virtual machine . e.g. virtualbox.
For example a damaged account can be deleted and a new one created.
Theme can be loaded from home directory without installing it.
It just needs to be in the right directory ( $HOME/.themes/ )and selected from the settings.

Hi 1000, thanks for your reply. I'm not quite sure I understand - do you know why the themes that are supposed to have sharp corners have rounded corners?

I do not know. How you know that the theme should look different ?

I can modify the theme a bit in the Mate environment. (controls, border [with title-buttons], icons, cursor)
I downloaded now Mint 21 Xfce and I just don't see that options in the settings Xfce.

I can run xfwm4-settings , there I can change theme to Daloa,
the corners of the window are more sharp.
But this is not applicable to all windows, for example for xfwm4-settings.
I do not know why. Porting from gtk2 to gtk3 incomplete is ?

Edited
I tried on Virtualbox live - CD / USB
For example I don't know why Emerald theme manager + Compiz window manager not working on this Xfce4.
On Mate Emerald also not working.

The Window Manager controls the top bar and the rounded corners are actually graphics files you can edit. They can be found in the /usr/share/themes/Default/xfwm4 directory.

Hi folks, thank you.

I tried editing top-left-active.png in the /usr/share/themes/Default/xfwm4/ directory so there were no rounded corners, then restarting, but the corners are still rounded.

Can you let me know what I'm doing wrong?

Maybe this thread will help. Looks like there's some cascading style sheet stuff involved too:

Thank you for the link. I tried the solutions listed with no luck. I've asked on the XFCE forums, and will report back if I find a solution.

Aha! Turns out my Appearance theme and my Window Manager theme didn't match. When I turned them BOTH to the same sharp cornered theme, the corners went sharp.
