Thank's Merlwiz, I'm writing from Mint XFCE 9 Amd64 right now. I think I'm in love with Isadora :)

I was having some trouble with automounting usb drives (hdd and pendrives). Some people recomended uninstall "usbmount" package to solve the problem. It was no installed in my system, so I installed them, and problem solved.

All other stuff I need is working great: smb printing, share folders with windows.

Thanks again.

Where can I get the RC? I've been running Xubuntu on Daughters machine, but I want to get the entire household over to Mint.

Thanks Merlwiz,

Did you change a setting in Removable Drives and Media?
I have tested a USB floppy drive, a generic USB hard drive, a USB 12 in card reader, my android smartphone and 2 pen drives.
They all worked on both i386(laptop) and amd64(desktop) installs.

Just wanted to ask. I am running the RC 9 and Gigolo will not open my file browser when I try to open my share file. This worked fine in Mint 8 xfce gvfs-open would open thunar with no problems and show all my share file on my network computer. Is there anything I can do to fix this. I love mint and have been using it sense Mint 5 now I have move over to XFCE from Gnome. Have always shared folder between my laptop and desktop. Gigolo works great for this alot better than pyneighborhood does. It will never mount like it should. Anyway If there is a fix for this please let me know. I did uninstall gigolo and reinstall through apt. but that did not help.

Thanks

I have pyNeighborhood working fine with my windows machine.
I just use the edit menu to add a machine by IP address.
You need gvfs-fuse installed for shares to work in Gigolo.
I guess it doesn't auto install with Gigolo.

Just for be sure I reinstall from 0, (formating / and /home), but the problem was there: the usb drives are just available for root. Thunar shows my pendrive and usb hard drive when I open folder as root.

According to some other forums, the issue was related with Login Screen: if you disable automated login, the problem is solved. I can say that is true. My ignorance makes me ask WHY. I guess is related with some permissions, since the user is root with the password.

I will keep my search, but have to ask, any idea?

Thanks in advance!

Thanks you Merlwiz. That fixed everything. Yea I have never been able to get pyneigborhood to work. And Gigolo works so good you don't even need pyneighborhood installed. You can get share folder and ntfs if you are dual booting. anyway. Thanks again. I am glad a person with your knowledge is behind the wheel on this project. Love MInt 9 xfce. it is smooth as silk on this old laptop.

Thanks

Weird I have the same USB problem when auto logging in as well.
I think I might have a fix for it but have to do some major testing to make sure.
I might be able to fix it with a simple package update but want to test everything to make sure I don't break anything.

@whvann08
Glad that fixed your problem.
I have no idea why it isn't a recommended package for gigolo. :?
I'll make sure it's in the final release.

I wish I had read this before futzing around trying to get gigolo to work :? . I did eventually figure out to install gvfs-fuse and now it works fine.

USB drives do not auto mount for me also (I use autologin). I'll turn off the autologin tonight and see if that makes a difference.

I posted bug 608275 about my mixer input levels resetting themselves to zero.

Webcam works fine.

I installed Evolution and gnome-pilot and Evolution syncs with my Palm Tungsten without having to do any terminal commands to get it set up. It just works. :D

Performed a 2nd (clean) install of Linux Mint 9 XFCE-RC on an 80gig HDD (also attached via IDE -> USB adapter) and the same problems manifest

-usb filesystem not mounting
-keyring password prompt

not sure if this is related but this thread concerns USB devices not mounting
http://ubuntuforums.org/archive/index.p ... 36847.html

Also I was wondering why some apps' UI seems different between Linux Mint XFCE Session & XFCE Session (login profile)
solved: manually selected GTK+ under Preferences-Interface-Style under SMPlayer

@edwardr
I made sure to add the info about Gigolo in the release notes under known problems.
Hope this makes it easier for other people.

@Joylove
I may have a fix for the autologin USB mounting problem.
If I do I'll update the package to fix it.

When you 1st setup wireless it asks you to setup a Keyring password.
It has done that every release of Xfce with Network Manager installed.
It also does that in Xubuntu.
If you want to be less secure you can choose not to put in a password.
It's not recommended but it'll stop asking you for one on every login.
Image
Xfce session is for if you prefer stock Xfce.
It will not have all my changes and will use the default Xfce settings.
The settings I changed are only loaded when you login to a Linux Mint Xfce session.
This is don this way on purpose.
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Xubuntu/LucidLynx/Final
Prefer the classic Xfce desktop defaults? Xubuntu now offers users the choice to select between a classic Xfce session and a Xubuntu session.

@merlwiz,

Clem got it out before I had time to figure out how to direct a mirror to the test site. I downloaded it today from Doctors. Can't wait to get home and create the Live CD so I can try it out on Daugter's Puter. Already verified the MD5's and I've got my "Handy Dandy" portable version of InfraRecorder on my neck.

I'm just itching to get started.

BTW, Hope your wife is doing well. I guess ya'll had quite a spell earlier in the year. Take Care of yourself, take care of her and we appreciate everything you Devs/ Maintainers do.

There will be a donation in the near future. (As soon as I can convince the Wife to turn loose of it. )

Glad you got the live CD with no problems.

She is ok.
Could be better if the new pain doc would stop messing with her meds.
Currently she has to take the max dosage of all pain meds to help with the pain.
For some reason he thinks it a great idea to change and then lower the strength of them. :(
We also have no idea when she'll have her surgery to replace the joint.
The place they ordered the part couldn't sell it to the hospital because they never where approved to in the 1st place.
Ugh it's a huge mess.
Enough of that though.

You don't need to donate money.
You are already donating your time to test the RC.
You can donate time to help others or even write instructions to helps others with something difficult.
If you have the bandwidth you could help by seeding the torrent.

Installed the RC from http://ftp.jaist.ac.jp/pub/Linux/LinuxM ... c-i386.iso
:
on page 3 of this thread as soon as it appeared.
Unfortunately, I was on an old W98 machine at the time.
The file contains the miheld.ibc trojan which runs in IE and FF, including in Mint Linux 9 installed from the download. Relatively easy to fix in Linux but days/weeks to clean from W98. It's got the lot, keyloggers, redirects, you-name-it.
Will post this in the release thread, too.

First time I've heard an executable ISO

Anyway after Merlwiz79 released the torrent list I initiated a torrent download and pointed it with the file I've downloaded to make sure both are identical aside from helping seed the torrent.

If you are interested in how I got the link then all I did was pick a mirror from the LM9 download page and browse the other available subfolders

http://www.linuxmint.com/edition.php?id=52

picked http://ftp.jaist.ac.jp/pub/Linux/LinuxM ... d-i386.iso

but browsed http://ftp.jaist.ac.jp/pub/Linux/LinuxMint-ISO/ moving to /testing folder and picked an ISO.

Yea right how can you get a virus from installing Linux.
Visited the site and my anti-virus didn't detect anything.
The ISOs have been on my hard drive for days and the anti virus had no problem with it.
I have installed with mint4win and the anti-virus has said nothing.
I have ZoneAlarm Extreme Security installed on my Windows 7 install.
You must have gotten it somewhere else.

I installed the LXDE, nvidia drivers, installed compiz then used startup manager to set the boot resolution to 1024x768.. oddly it broke the XCONFIG setting and when I booted it gave me the standard XFCE (xubuntu like) DE. I wonder if this is really a bug?

First time I've heard an executable ISO
First time in 20yrs I've had virus/trojan/worm problems. Never seen anything like this before. And, it's not a new trojan concept so must be new improved version.
I burned to new CD-RW, installed on a clean HD, and up it pop on my lloydstsb URL. Apparently it's IE (never, ever use!) and Firefox speciifc - doesn't work in Opera or Chrome. Maybe it was hiding in Firefox which they tampered with and uploaded a re-master? Only other explanation is that it came from LloydsTSB itself - extremely unlikely but possible, unless it's been incorporated into one of the new router malwares reported on TheRegister.com last week?
Any further comments/ideas?
Visited the site and my anti-virus didn't detect anything.
Take a look at the profile analysis of this one - it cannot be stopped by ad-aware, AVG, ZoneAlarm and doubtless many other common firewall/malware detectors. There are some truly evil greedy crooks in this world.
