Once they are done I'll make the amd64 packages and start on the ISO.

Once we get back from visiting with our families she will have many more appointments.
We might be moving in the Summer but it could be in Autumn.
I would like to wish you and your wife a memorable time with your families,
and thanks for the updates.

Christmas is not going to be good for us.
Most likely not going home for Christmas.
Not even sure if we'll get a rental car to drive or any money to fix/replace the car.

Sorry to hear of your additional misfortune.
Looks like you hit a deer?

How can I help you with testing? Currently have some systems with Peppermint converted to Xfce4 from repos. Also have a couple with Peppermint. My wife has a pre-school and they use whatever I put on them, so long as they have Childsplay, Gcompris, Tuxpaint & Ktuberling. (also gnome-games is fun for the older kids.) And with the long holiday I have more to play with. They just need to be workable by 10-Jan. :)

[Edit: Reading over the thread I see some notes for Xubuntu. I'll set aside a P4 and install Xubuntu and make the changes noted. I'll watch this thread if you will advise any changes. rh]

The current Xfce4 in the repo has a bug in the panel: can't move apps on the panel. For instance, Add New Item such as DateTime but can not move it to replace the old Clock applet. Only way is to click exactly where it is desired and then install. Repeat until successfull. :)

I'm willing to provide a test-box. Tell me what is needed. I read that you are using Xubuntu as a base. Downloading [the torrent is running] and will install on my EeePC 1005HA which is currently running Julia very nicely.

It was great with Peppermint, but Lxde still has some deficiencies that are occasionally annoying. (Pcmanfm mostly at present.) Other than that it is improving rapidly. But switched to Julia and installed Xfce4 to see if it slowed down. Seems fine and the added control is welcome.

With all the rain and bridges out here in Venezuela we won't be going from West to East for the holidays either.

Nothing but the best for you and yours for the holidays and 2011.

regards,
Richard.

Another car hit us on the left side.
She was at a stop sign and we had the right of way.
There was a huge SVU in the way but I looked to make sure no one was moving before it was blocking my view.

I only have the packages done and haven't built an ISO.
I'm going to build the amd64 packages tonight.

We just got a rental car for an arm and leg.
So we are still going home to visit everyone.

I have just completed all of the amd64 packages.
I have also added the mint-meta-xfce packages as well.
You may be able to install on Xubuntu by using these commands.(not recommended for main PC)
i386(32bit):

Code: Select all

apt update
apt install mint-meta-xfce mint-info-xfce
amd64(64Bit):

Code: Select all

apt update
apt install mint-meta-xfce mint-info-xfce64
Make sure to say yes to everything.
Then login into the Linux Mint Xfce session.
I'm not sure if you can upgrade from Linux Mint 9 Xfce and I DON'T recommend that you try.

Made a new installation of Xubuntu, that now looks fairly well Mintified. The boot screen is from Julia.

Generally, according to your notes in this thread, I did the following:

Code: Select all

deb http://packages.linuxmint.com julia-xfce main upstream import
deb-src http://packages.linuxmint.com julia-xfce main upstream import
deb http://packages.linuxmint.com julia main upstream import
deb-src http://packages.linuxmint.com julia main upstream import
Edited sources.list directly for best results.
Then

Code: Select all

apt-get update
apt-get remove purge plymouth-theme-xubuntu-logo xubuntu-artwork xubuntu-default-settings xubuntu-desktop xubuntu-docs xubuntu-gdm-theme xubuntu-icon-theme xubuntu-plymouth-theme xubuntu-wallpapers
followed by

Code: Select all

apt-get update
apt-get install mint-artwork-xfce mint-backgrounds-julia mint-icon-theme mint-themes-gtk mintconfig-xfce mintdesktop-xfce thunar-custom-actions-xfce thunar-shares-plugin vino-xfce xfcemint-default-settings thunar libthunar-vfs-1-2 mint-x-theme firefox-defaults-xfce grub2-theme-mint grub-common grub-pc libplymouth2 linuxmint-keyring mint-info-xfce mint-stylish-addon mintinstall mintbackup mintnanny mintupdate mintupload mintwelcome mintwifi plymouth plymouth-label plymouth-theme-ubuntu-text mint-x-icons
This required several attempts to complete. And a couple of # apt-get -f install to get to completion.

Code: Select all

apt-get update
apt-get install mint-meta-xfce mint-info-xfce
This ran into some problems.
Solved by adding the medibuntu repository due to dependencies. I used this mirror:

Code: Select all

deb http://mirrors.ucr.ac.cr/medibuntu/ maverick free non-free
then just to see, added:

Code: Select all

apt-get update
apt-get install mintmenu
which runs OK but isn't populated yet.

Moved all applets from panel 2 to panel 1 at top, removed panel 2 then moved panel 1 to bottom.

Now looks more minty. Everything is working. No breakage yet. Posting from Mintified Xubuntu.
Please advise any errors or missteps that you see and I'll update it.

Installed the following for myself via Synaptic: chromium-browser, htop, mc, xfce4-datetime-plugin.
Then removed the following via Synaptic which seemed duplicated: update-manager, update-manager-core, update-notifier.

regards,
Richard.

OK, corrected. maverick not lucid. Thanks.
I'll change my xmint sources and see if it changes.

There are some changes, not all due to this change.

A question:
I added the repo: deb http://packages.linuxmint.com julia main upstream import
but for some reason it doesn't show in synaptic. It keeps changing the url?
[Edit: Fixed in sources.list but still doesn't show in synaptic?.]

Which of the Xubuntu repos can I remove? There sure are a lot of them:

Code: Select all

# deb cdrom:[Xubuntu 10.10 _Maverick Meerkat_ - Release i386 (20101008.1)]

deb http://packages.linuxmint.com julia-xfce main upstream import
deb http://packages.linuxmint.com julia main upstream import
deb http://mirrors.ucr.ac.cr/medibuntu/ maverick free non-free

deb http://ve.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ maverick main restricted

deb http://ve.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ maverick-updates main restricted

deb http://ve.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ maverick-updates universe

deb http://ve.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ maverick multiverse
deb http://ve.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ maverick-updates multiverse

deb http://archive.canonical.com/ubuntu maverick partner

deb http://extras.ubuntu.com/ubuntu maverick main

deb http://security.ubuntu.com/ubuntu maverick-security main restricted
deb http://security.ubuntu.com/ubuntu maverick-security universe
deb http://security.ubuntu.com/ubuntu maverick-security multiverse
Richard.

[PS: I wonder who removed Ctrl-L to erase the gnome-console in Xubuntu¿? [And now it works? back in LM10? go figure :))]

Hi
Very sorry about your wife's troubles and you car accident. Thanks a lot for the time you still dedicate to the project, I think all the users really appreciate it.

I tried installing mintmenu on Gloria in the past, following this tutorial: http://veniatregnum.wordpress.com/2008/ ... n-xubuntu/
It dispalyed correctly but of course some functions did not work (logoff/disconnect, directories were opened with nautilus instead of thunar etc...)

Any chance to see the Mint Menu installed by default on Mint XFCE edition and fully working?

Thanks in advance

@Gorgio,
Didn't have much luck with installing/compiling xfapplet (dependency has changed name, I think, y etc.)
according to the link: http://veniatregnum.wordpress.com/2008/ ... n-xubuntu/ (from 2008).
Maybe Merl knows the secret to make it work. It's a part of Xfce Goodies.

Forgive the question, but I thought mintmenu worked in Helena-Xfce?
It's been a while since I used it and don't remember. :}}

Been using Peppermint mostly on the netbook.
Using Julia on the desktop, due to occasional Lxde shortcomings.
Installed Xfce4 from repo on Pmint1 and seems OK, but still mostly use Lxde.
Seems like Xfce-4.8 is still several months away. Will be nice.

regards.

Ok I'm back home.
We bought a certified pre owned car.
Have to wait for it to be delivered the 30th.
I probably can't start working on it again until the weekend.

Sorry to hear of your misfortunes. It seems to always come in threes.

Take care of the wife.

Look forward to the Julia XFCE Edition, but no hurry. As has already been said, Family comes first.

I just started playing around in Julia Main and I'm content for now. Always looking forward to your RC, and I will give it a run just like I did Isadora. My daughter loves XFCE on her Computer, and has nothing but praise for it.

Take Care,
Dave

Hi and sorry to sound a little crass. I totally understand that the developer has bigger fish to fry right now. I was wondering whether there was an overview of what we can expect from the new XFCE version of mint? More specifically, whether it will be using the mint menu?

I ask only because I've been considering making a modified version which includes some thing I'm interested in, and was wondering which direction the new Mint XFCE was taking - it would help me figure out which way to go with the mods I'm trying to make.

Thanks in advance.

Well, I read this thread with great care, taking notes on the changes made and tried it. By George or should I say "By Merlwiz?" it worked. Anyway I have everything working and when I log out I get Linux Mint in the shutdown message and I get Mint again in startup with dots below it. Not sure if there is another way to see if this is Mint Xfce, but, thanks for the work to get me here. I already had medibuntu installed, so that was not a problem. For Kernel I have 2.6.35-24-generic #42-Ubuntu. See Signature for other info.

Hi MERLWIZ79,

Long time lurker and first time poster here. + an avid user of xfce with Mint 9 :D
First of all I hope that your wife is now recovering well and she is not too traumatised from the events prior to Christmas.

Is there a xfce 10 build (alpha/beta) that we can download and test yet??

Nobby
