Xfce Desktop Sounds-Reprise

Post by How-old! »

On Dec4 2010, member M_Mynaardt, raised the issue of Xfce sounds in a parallel thread.
Stranger than fiction, he was advised to switch on sound effects in "Appearance".
I asked a supplementary:
OK - did that. Then what?!
"I'd like to play a short MP3 tune (in Exaile, for example) when the desktop starts up.
Any chance? Does it need a script? edited into some start-up file(s)?"
Unfortunately nil response, perhaps because the originator had labelled his query "Solved".
[Always a mistake in this world! Nothing, absolutely nothing, qualifies for that kind of branding. Where software is concerned, "solved" is a word that should be banned.]

So, any more advice, please?

You may want to try adding a script to the Application Autostart in the Session & Startup program found in the Settings menu . .

edit :  or . . overwrite/rename your sound file, and replace the linuxmint-login.wav file in usr/share/sounds (as admin/superuser)
(may have to convert it to a wav)

Many thanks richyrich. Will try that.
Only just spotted your kind reply. Waiting to hear good news from Merlwiz - personal and technical that is!
