Firefox fonts and menu mess. Any way to fix?

Dear All,
I've installed Mint XFCE and desperately trying to iron out all glitches for few days already. There two most annoying things:

1) Fonts in Firefox look different from other apps. The GUI font is bolder then the rest of apps and the fonts on the pages is sometimes aliased and weirdly colored. I was googling for two days and tried every "fix" one by one with no effect. I've found 3 different variants of .fonts.conf - they didn't help. This is definitely Firefox problem - Chrome and Opera look better. Now I've no idea what else I can do with this. Any suggestions?

2) After update toXfce 4.8 my menu layout changed. Instead of familiar order of categories it is now sorted alphabetically. This is very inconvenient, but I can't find any way to revert it back. Is it possible?

Thank you for any help!

Firefox uses the font settings that are in .fonts.conf , so make sure that the your .fonts.conf has similar settings to what you have go to Menu -> Settings -> Appearance -> Fonts

Starting from Xfce 4.8 the menu can be edited with the Gnome menu editor - Alacarte. but be careful when you install it, because it has lots of gnome dependencies that you don't really want to have installed.

I did this and it does not help. I don't care about small inconsistencies in GUI fonts, but the fonts on pages look awful.

Great, but why the whole layout is messed up on update?

After few days of tweaking I gave up and installed Xubuntu 11.04. It looks really great out of the box - everything is in place, fonts are awesome and the menu layout is normal (and, btw, there is Firefox 4.0 in contrast to 3.6 in Mint Xfce). It is sad, but Mint Xfce is far behind Xubuntu and can't recommend it to anybody. I hope this will change in the future.

unfortunately I had to do the same and my system is running 11.04 now too (since Friday) until we reach the next LTS version where I most likely will switch to "wait for the next LTS" mode. I really REALLY liked LM-9 XFCE but as it's a dead end there's no reason to put it on my new machine.
The LMDE XFCE version unfortunately doesn't fit to Linux Mint's previous achievements. xubuntu is more elegant and more stable and much easier to maintain. If there isn't sufficient capacity I would drop all LM versions besides the mainstream and concentrate on them as these other things just ruin the reputation of LM being an elegant and stable distribution with all the packages which are troublesome in the US and Japan (US patent encumbered music and video stuff). Fortunately _ubuntu has made that easy too and I have to admit that the nvidia installation was a LOT less painful in xubuntu.

The above recommendation would exclude me as a user as I never liked gnome and I got used to hate KDE 4.x (used KDE since 1998!) but I think it is more important to have LM as a great looking and functioning derivative from ubuntu instead of a "we provide every flavor with questionable performance".

Like some other Xfce Minters, I have switched to Xubuntu 11.04 (but still have Mint 9 LTS Xfce at work). 11.04 is the best Xubuntu version I have ever tried, and it's very sad that Mint Xfce is based for now on Debian instead of Xubuntu :( .

Mint 11 RC seems to be awesome, but Gnome is definitely not for me :? .
