Grandpa crumbled cornbread into buttermilk which I always considered vile….
Oh that's goooooood. Much better than 'sweet milk' & cornbread. I used to think buttermilk was vile but as I've gotten older, I'm starting to appreciate it. I like me some buttermilk and cornbread.

I like both coffee and tea (real tea, not herbal teas so much). I like my coffee strong (my wife likes her beans) and black, with just a little sweetener. I've been drinking a lot more lately since I'm on a "diet" (lost 22 lbs. so far, yay!). As for tea, either black (red) or green. I've had oolong and white, but they're harder to find. I'm not fancy, just use the kind in tea-bags.
Same here. Due to my health problems I had to forget the coffee, tea never became the same for me as a source of energy and good mood. I prefer Indian black tea, whatever...

I just cannot bring myself to try it again, but then again, I have started enjoying greek style unsweetened yogurt. As for MATE, never tried it, no where to really get it here where I can be sure that it is the "real" MATE. I also cannot drink my tea "British style" with milk, I have to use lemon, it must be a southern thing. My late in laws drank on occasion something they called "Yerba Buena" to settle their stomachs. It must be a San Antonio thing?

Thanks, I might order some, and give it a try. I think my brother in law might want to join me in trying it. My niece who did some schooling in Argentina developed a taste for it.

I can drink hot tea with milk, but I'm very oddball for around here for that.

In my family the correct technique is to fill the glass with crumbled cornbread, then add buttermilk. A long teaspoon is then used to eat the dish. I like it as a desert.

And for the record I love black coffee, and occasionally enjoy white and sweet English tea.

That is how grandpa did it.
