inxi equivalent

What do I enter in a Mac and in a Windows computer to get the equivalent of inxi -Fxz?
I am specifically looking for the unit's serial number.

I'm not sure about Mac but as far as Windows ( reminds me of how Brody sounds on youtube when he says windows xD ) start menu. "System"

And one of the two or three results might provide that info.

This is funny, because I actually started inxi for gnu/linux precisely because I had been a windows sys admin and there was no program like it. There's some gui stuff, like cpu-x or whatever. So I'm glad to hear this is still the case. I think the gui thing cpu-x or whatever it's called shows some stuff in a tab layout type format. I'm happy to report I haven't done windows sys admin for a long time now, but the basic place you found stuff was in a tabbed system info tool whose name happily escapes me, I could find it if I was at a windows system by poking around but I'm not.

The way inxi is and looks is a direct outcome of how sick I was of digging through stupid windows guis to get basic sys info, and forget about being able to ssh into the box and running a single command to see what the system is.

Basically, windows has never loved command line, so their shells are crappy, or weird complex freakshows that don't understand the difference between a shell and a complex programming language (aka, powershell), and apple hates all this stuff because their users want their hands held and don't want to know anything so their command line stuff is pathetic at best.

inxi will start on osx but since there are almost no tools, it won't tell you much. Someone recently posted an issue re WSL on windows, which was funny, but again, there not very much data, but the results will be more robust I think on wsl since that's ubuntu than on osx. Neither os is supported because neither is free/open source software, so that's never changing.

If I want to see what's in a windows system, I boot into a usb stick then run inxi, if it's for me, I use sudo inxi --debug 22 to upload for myself the system data, but sudo inxi --debug 20 will create a local zip file with pretty much everything you might want to know.

/sys is just better than anything any other os has currently, sad to say, Linus and company have been working on that slowly, incrementally, for 20 years plus now, and it shows.

Agree. Installed WSL Ubuntu, updated, installed inxi. WSL runs in a console mode, so no graphics info. Sensors-detect doesn't work, some fields tell you "requires root", even when ran as root. Limited value. I agree running a live USB inxi is going to be more informative.

Well for Windows, Aida or the old Everest used to work well.
Aida is now 30 day shareware and probably isn't as streamlined as it used to be.
