I would like to announce I will will doing a comphrendsive benchmark set of testing
i will be test the following oses (64 bit)
win xp pro
windows vista ultimate
windows 7 ultimate
linux mint 13 cinnamon
linux mint 13 mate
linux mint 12 kde
linux mint 12 lxde
LMDE mate/cinnamon
LMDE xfce
debian testing gnome
debian testing kde
debian testing xfce
debian testing lxde
fedora 17 gnome
fedora 17 kde
fedora 17 xfce
fedora 17 lxde
ubuntu 12.04 unity
ubuntu 12.04 kde
ubuntu 12.04 lxde
ubuntu 12.04 xfce
opensuse 12.1 gnome
opensuse 12.1 kde
opensuse 12.1 lxde
opensuse 12.1 xfce

i will be benchmarking
boot time
shutdown time
large file transfer (external usb 2.0(ntfs)
small file transfer (external usb 2.0(ntfs)
large file transfer (external usb 2.0 (ext4)
small file transfer (external usb 2.0 (ext4)
idle ram usage after boot
time to launch default version of firefox

If anyone knows of any oses I should add or any extra benchmarks I should preform, please tell me that is I am posting this

I'm assuming (hoping) you will test this on actual hardware, not on a virtual machine. Which means you would have to install them all. Two benchmarks I'd like to see:
- installed size. Using the default selections, what is the total filesystem usage after installation? Excluding swap I'd say.
- installation time. From switching on the machine till reboot once done, how much time taken? Perhaps exclude the parts where you have to answer questions (and perhaps add how many screens with question you have to answer).

Even if you don't include those, you're awesome for doing this :mrgreen:

why thank you, installed time i though i listed either, i never thought of fs usage, good idea.
and no vm's
this being on the following specs
1.asus m3n78-vm mobo
2.ati radeon hd 5770 graphics
3.64 ssd kingston
4.750 hdd seagate
5. amd phenom x2 970 cpu
6.write master 22x dvd burner

p.s I think I may use the phoronix suite as well, atleast wahtever will run on all platforms
