I can't believe they are asking over nine hundred bucks for anything with Win 8 on it. I see a massive fail with Win8, what do you guys think?

Good to know Win8 can be wiped and Mint installed :-)

Not an issue. It is common knowledge that failure is not an option, it comes bundled with Windows.

It looks to me like the "tablet interface" is even less popular on the MS side of the fence: http://www.tomshardware.com/news/Window ... 19430.html

I just can't see a Windows tablet competing with iPad and Android tablets. Android has Windows beat on price, iPad has Windows beat on quality, and both are far ahead of Windows with apps. Too little too late For Windows and they are pleasing no one with that Metro interface. The high prices Windows 8 is asking just about guarantees a fail.
Edit: the price of tablets are coming down and probably have not hit bottom yet

Windows is coming it at the very highest end of tablets, completely clueless.

I'm not surprised that no sooner had Windows 8 been released several hacks had been concocted to give the Windows 7 functionality back to users. My new HP laptop has Windows 8 and I installed Classic Shell the next day so that I could even use it if I choose to.

I see it as another step down the path of UI evolution, away from hierarchical and rote-based interaction and toward a more natural "ask the computer to do/find something" approach, with speech eventually becoming the default way of issuing commands.

Just like on Star Trek. I mean really, could you imagine Uhura saying:

Computer! > Start > Accessories > Communications > Universal Translator > Launch

:)

Yes, I think speech will be big, but it has serious limitations in public settings. Can you imagine a room filled with office workers shouting into their computers :-) I think hand gestures controlling PC's will also be quite big. Probably touch screens aren't going away for awhile.
