Fortune | Cowsays does not say anything

Post by koesherbacon »

Hello everyone,

I realize this might be a strange question, especially since I'm not using Mint and instead use OS X 10.9 Mavericks. The Terminal should be similar enough for this question to be answered by someone here.

Anyway, I'm having some trouble with two terminal apps that I installed using

Code: Select all

sudo gem install cowsay
and

Code: Select all

sudo port install fortune
-- both fun little terminal apps that I understand also work for Mint's terminal.

As you can see from these pics, both apps work independently of one another.

Running fortune works fine and so does cowsay, except that cowsay never says anything!

I'd really like to get it so that Cowsay will show the Fortune. How do I configure Cowsay to do this? How do I configure Cowsay altogether, so I can select which characters I'd like it to show?

Any info you can provide me will be great!

Thanks so much, I realize it's sort of odd to have someone using another OS ask a question like this, but rest assured... my other computer is running Mint without any issues. That's why I wanted to try to get this working on OS X since I like the feature in Mint :)
