Windows 9 Preview

Post by gtsfer » Fri Sep 12, 2014 2:36 pm

There's several articles about leaked Windows 9 screen shots and pcworld.com even has a preview with a video. Linux has me spoiled to the core now with so many choices of desktops, widgets, applets and settings. My initial reaction to this was ... Eeeeeeeewwww. It still looks to me like it's more at home on a Leapfrog than a PC. OK, maybe it's' all right for tablets, but not on any of mine.

Microsoft has come up with some brand new technology for W9. Virtual desktops! I think this could be a big seller and that users will like it. It's great to see some totally new ideas and concepts coming out. What do you think, would you give Win 9 a whirl or have you abandoned M$ completely?

I've abandoned MS completely, I love Linux to much to return, unless they make an OS like the computer on Star Trek, from the 60's totally voice activated, AI, etc.

Should be called Win 8PLUS7. They are trying to recoup alienated users, and want to charge them again.
But of coarse we will all probably mess with it out of curiosity if not just for a laugh. I really miss being told
how to use my computer-don't you?

I don't know I just abandoned windows few weeks ago, so I'm new to Linux but I certainly not want back to windows with these random release cycles !
I watched this video, and my dear Linux mint 17 cinnamon seems way advanced to this. Oh and yeah more affordable, ecological maybe.
Linux mint is awesome.

Virtual Desktop? Wow So useful, suppose I need to toss away my Linux virtual desktops I've had since the 90's because this is so new and innovating

On a desktop I wouln't even consider a touch screen interface, and without looking I expect to see that for win 8x onwars or Google Android OS (if they have a desktop)
-- as part of the scale from:
smartphone/mobile device-->tablet-->netbook/umpc-->desktop--> (embedded system, Rasberry PI as an example..)

I can definitely live without the limitations created by trying to get one OS to run on anything, at least any product lines your company would be supporting.

I just recently blew Windows off of my computer and gave the entire HDD to Mint 17, so I don't quite miss MS yet.

Looks like MS ran out of ideas and decided to copy the new KDE 5.

Looks like another M$ failure to me... Sorry but I am done with M$.. I keep a netbook around with Win 7 on it because I am going into IT and I need to know/use windows now and then. My personal desktop and laptop will always stay Linux. I'm not going to give M$ another penny..

Really? Win 8 in a corporate environment? From what I understand you can only run 2 apps at a time. That you can see and manipulate easily that is. I have only dabbled with it thankfully.

I've ditched Windows for good. I dont care for all this buzz about having the latest and the greatest technology. Sometimes, older stuff works just fine. It does exactly what you need it to do. Yet people still go out and buy more junk...

Windows 9? No thanks. I found Linux, and Linux is now my only /home. :)

My university probably will switch or already switched to Windows 8.1. I wonder what they will do now... :D

Anyway as gtsfer said, M$ now have brand new technology - virtual desktops! What a surprise! And when the day comes for uncle Gates to present this new technology it will be good to have a few KDE developers there to spoil him with yet another leaked info: KDE introduced virtual desktops back in 1998. :P
Proud of Linux Mint!
