If not Mint, then...
Re: If not Mint, then...
enjoying LinuxLite on my older laptop
i was looking for a distro that had minimul cpu usage when playing last.fm minimized
this works in linuxmint with lxde, but they do not support lxde, though it does work
i believe linux lite is using a version of xfce
the cpu usage dropped from 60+ to 30+ when i minimized firefox, which is about as good as i've seen from any distro i've tried
hopefully it continues to impress, but if not I will probably go with LMDE + LXDE

Re: If not Mint, then...
For older, less powerful machines I've had better success with RPM-based distros. Not sure why that would be...

Re: If not Mint, then...
I have neither the inclination nor the patience for Arch or Gentoo, but I'm comfortable with Debian and Debian-based distros such as Vsido and Siduction. Meanwhile, I look forward to seeing what the former CrunchBang community, now known as BunsenLabs, develops.

Re: If not Mint, then...
Before knowing about Mint, I was just about to install Ubuntu. But, I have found an article telling that Mint was better, especially on the multimedia side. One of my brothers in law was a big Ubuntu fan. He was the one that introtuced me to Linux. If not Ubuntu, then Debian with non free.

Xubuntu, which I run on one of my computers, or perhaps Manjaro. I really like the way Xfce is going. Peppermint 5 is also very nice - I use it on a netbook.

i am liking pclinuxos full monty kde so far; good kde implementation, something besides debian/ubuntu; they use 'rpm' packages
there is a 'trinity' desktop version you can download via linuxtracker, it is like windows 7

Netrunner or Kubuntu.
I've enjoyed the freedom of Linux for too many years to return to that other OS.

If Linux Mint, Ubuntu, or any of the other Ubuntu-based derivatives did not exist, then it would be:
a.) Arch or Slackware if I was going to stick with using Linux.
b.) FreeBSD or one of it's derivatives, since I've always wanted to see what BSD is all about.
