Is there a command to update Windows? [SOLVED]
I'm not exactly new to Linux Mint but because there are a few programs that won't run in Linux and Wine I need to keep a working copy of Windows, with all the tiresome but necessaries that are needed.
I have replaced XP with a copy of Win 7 Pro and now I get to the crux of the problem. Does anyone know if there is a terminal type command in Windows similar to ' sudo apt-get upgrade ' in Mint, that will install the hundreds/thousands of updates I have so far missed?
Sorry guys, wrong place but I'm just asking in case anyone knows!
All the best.
(PS I'm running Mint 13 Mate, Mint 17 Mate and Mint 17.2 Xfce, and two versions of 'Doze, XP 64 Pro and Win & Pro 64 using three hard drives.)

Wondering why should one want this. Automatic updates are enabled by default.

This is just my opinion, but I dual boot with Win 8.1 pro because I need it for one thing. But I turned off updates, because I don't trust Windows. Every so often I go in and just add a few security updates. It works out fine, and I do not use it much, esp, for surfing, e-mail, etc.

I use it on a daily base for letting the sun light come in and to watch the world outside.Habitual wrote:What's "Windows"?

Hello George - Google the term "Simplix Update Pack for Windows 7". I've heard of it but never actually tried it. From what I understand, it contains all of the security updates for Windows 7. That should take care of the bulk of the updates on a new installation; then you can use Windows Update to take care of the rest.

Thank you for your replies. I know I can use the automatic process but waiting hours for them to download whilst the computer churns away, so I wanted a quicker way, thus the Linuxical apt-get command.

Start the updates before you go to bed at night

If automatic updates has found new updates, you can shutdown the computer. Windows will tell you, that the updates get applied. Leave it, go to bed (or to work ...), when you return the pc is out.

Aha, now this looks like the sort of thing I was thinking of. Thanks Axel!

FWIW, a Win7 update ate my MBR on a dual boot and effectively deleted my linux partition.
I no longer dual boot and Win7 is only allowed in a VMWare image.

Windows assumes I'm stupid but Linux proves it.
