I use the following free Droid app to backup & restore SMS & call logs:

You can then connect to your PC via USB cable and copy the folder that the app uses for backups.

I also use SMS Backup & Restore, but there's another module for it on the Google Play Store which then lets it back up to your Google Drive account. It works very well.

EDIT: The latest version of SMS Backup & Restore no longer requires the extra module; the online backup ability is now integrated into the main app.

Welcome to the wonderful world of Linux Mint and its excellent forum !

It would help to know more about your system setup. If you run "inxi -Fxzd" from the console terminal prompt, highlight the results, copy and paste them back here, that should provide enough information.

I just read your post and the good replies to it. Here are my thoughts on this as well.

FYI: There are some programs that have to do with "mtp" in the Software Manager or Synaptic Package Manager (SPM) that usually help with phones, portable music players, etc...
