Hi one and all,

Team member Demmers here! Just thought i'd drop by to say hello.
I'm doing what I can with my Ryzen 3400G Mint 19.3 machine. Looking down the line to move up to the RTX 2060, but by that time comes, maybe a new gen card on the horizon, so we'll see.
Built this mini-itx Mint PC from scratch last November to replace my old crappy work-given Windows PC. Started folding in December, then joined the team early Feb. I don't game, hence lack of graphics card. But this 3400G makes for an awesome all-in-one. It has 4 physical cores, 8 threads, but i've noticed that folding on only 4 cores gives pretty much the same PPD as running on 8, but is more efficient. I read on the folding forum that thread cores don't account for much, and my experience is proving that to be correct. Good to see each core in System Monitor taking turns to max out instead of all 8 constantly at 100%. A couple of times, Mint had frozen on me when running on 8, but maybe that was because i've overclocked the CPU to 4Ghz instead of the base 3.7. Either way, i'm happy with an average of 45-50k PPD considering.
Having it fold on 4 cores means I can still use the PC for normal everyday use. I've started to let the machine run every hour over the weekend upon my return from work Friday, and turn it on/off each week day evening. I don't want to run this machine into the ground after having it just built (obviously lol), seems like a good compromise to me. Anyone else folding on just CPU?
I'm glad to see how the teams performance is doing on https://folding.extremeoverclocking.com ... s=&t=76140 Long may that upward trend continue!

Hello old friends, I hope all is well.

If you are working on any of the following projects you have joined the fight against the Corona Virus. These are core22 projects for the GPU. The post originated from the Fah forums and beta team I believe. I copied it from a post DutchForce made on the EVGA forums.
I'm taking up the fight and will do some of it for Team 76140.

Cheers!

Thank you all for your patience as we spent a week deciding on how to best use the awesome extra power we've gotten from all you folks wanting to help out with the coronavirus effort. We've settled on 6 projects for now, and there's a lot of new biochemistry data coming in that we'll most likely set up more projects with.

Here are short descriptions of the projects -- please give us a few more days to get you a full blog post explaining more biochemistry and what your work can achieve with these projects. In general, we're looking for alternative conformations and hidden pockets within the most promising drug targets, which can only be seen in simulation and not in static crystal / cryo-EM structures. There's some very fresh drug screening data coming out now for some of these, which we'll use to validate the simulations and help direct the screening efforts -- collecting as much data, as rapidly as possible will be crucial, and thank you again for making that possible!

All projects are using the new OpenMM GPU Core22.

For now just set the beta flag for your GPU. (do you know how?) These should be mainstream in a day or 2.

Another copy/paste:
by rafwiewiora » Mon Mar 09, 2020

To add to that on what's happening with these projects in the next few days: if no major problems in beta, I will be moving to both advanced and F@h tomorrow -- all client type flags will remain set, so you don't have to make any changes no matter which one you're using. Thanks again to everyone!

I just fired up folding after a couple days of inactivity and picked up an 11746 right away.

darktheme,

thanks for the information concerning the Corona Virus. I am currently running a 11746 unit.

It is nice to think that in some small way we are helping.

Best Regards Keith

Mine is dead, too, even coming back from a clean boot. I'm getting this:

Code: Select all

I'm also getting "Bad Gateway" most of the time when I try to check our team's stats.

Hi both of you,

at the moment I am having no issues and am currently running a work unit 0x21 project 14310.

I will have a look on line to see if I can find any information. Lets hope you both get up and running soon.

Best regards Keith

Yep, same thing here still. Stanford server must be having issues. Multiple people on the F@H forum not getting work units/IP checks show unavailable. Let it sit and wait is all we can do.

I had issues too a few hours ago getting a project. Removed/re-added myself as a local client, this then caused a fresh successful download. And blow me down, I get my first (as far as i'm aware) Coronavirus project (14328)! I was surprised by this as I thought they were only pushing out projects for GPU's, and I don't have one. But now I see they're pushing out smaller one's that work side by side for different reasons, which makes sense.

Found this on Folding Forum, which explains the outages. Looks like the virus has caused an increase in the amount of folders!

I'm certainly happy with that! Had an issue yesterday (I think) downloading a new work unit but left it sitting and it sorted itself after a while, IIRC.
