Hi all,

I spoke too soon. I have not been able to download a work unit since 14-00. I will leave it running and hope that it picks up again.

Best Regards Keith

p.s. I have just picked up a unit. It is 23-20.

I am doing roughly a 3rd of my normal work. WU are definitely hit or miss.

One of our Supermarkets here in the UK has a saying "every little helps". Our team doing something at this grim time still makes the effort well worth while. Hopefully Stamford will find a way to push out more work units.

Best regards Keith

This is crazy. I restarted all my machines an hour ago because they have been idle most of the day. They are still idle now. I was looking at one of the forums on the stanford F@H sight and one of the student guys said that they cannot keep up with the amount of WU that are being distributed. apparently they can only allocate so many WU at one time.

While the WUs are still hit and miss, I haven't been able to get any user/team stats in weeks (the dreaded "Bad Gateway" error). Anyone else experiencing this?

Today my PC is working normally, I have been processing several folds, but I have been a few days that nothing has worked. I think they're saturated since they did the PC Master Race and NVIDIA campaign, plus Linis Tech Tips was also announcing it, and they have a real army of followers, so there's not enough for everyone. :)

If our efforts via this project can make any difference, in this fight and others, I'd be one happy camper. It's good to see so many come to the cause.

Yeah, we'll give you a hand.

It doesn't happen to you that when you start a folding project on the graphics card, a constant sound begins that I have no idea what it is, while in games that is not heard. Does anyone know why that is?

Yes, likely fan noise..your GPU is being pretty heavily tasked while folding, especially if you have the slider set to “Full” power in FAHControl. I am presuming its a fan, running faster than your games have made it run. What’s the GPU temperature look like? (Hopefully your’re not hearing something like a high frequency electrical whine, are you?) Could also be a combination of GPU and CPU fans, as part of your CPU will still be nearly at 100% usage, even when folding on a GPU.

I am fortunate to have mine sitting by a window I can open, and manually set my fan to a high speed during folding.

However, I’m about ready to jump off, if don’t start getting more WU’s. Was down to about 50% my capacity, likely closer to 30% today. I don’t understand how they’re dividing up the work, but I sure am not getting much done.

No no, my graphics card is liquid-cooled, so you don't hear any fans. It's an electric buzzing sound, which only does it when it's folding, because it doesn't do it when I'm playing and since I have this video card (2070 Super) it has never done so.

A new fold started 10 minutes ago, and right now it's not making that electric buzzing sound.

the sound you hear is more than likely coil whine. my Nvidia cards do it and so does my Radeon VII. it's not necessarily normal, but it is very common.

The truth is that the coil sound is not very good, although right now it does not and is at full capacity. As for the temperatures, they range from 45° to 50°, so it's a very good temperature.

Let's see if soon they put me the solar panels, and I can do folds quietly without having to pay electricity, here in Spain we have many hours of sunshine, and here in Valencia we have very good weather. A greeting to all!

if its that bad, you need to RMA that card. more than likely it will get worse, as the insulation get beat up inside the capacitor allowing the coil to vibrate harder it will get louder. Sorry to hear that about your card though.

But seriously, I can't wait for the server upgrades to complete, CPU projects have come near enough to a halt. But when do they do kick in, I bet f@h will break the exaflop mark in less than a month.... https://foldingforum.org/viewtopic.php?f=16&t=32921

Is there a easy way for a *nix novice to get FAH working with a Radeon RX480 GPU? System is 19.3 Tricia.

the 960s should net you around 160,000 PPD a piece, while the w5100 on the other hand is way weaker at folding.(from What I can read) I could be wrong.
