I've downloaded the client on 2 machines. One running mint 19.3 and one running win 10. Both are seeing my GPUs at least if not using them. I do have a couple of newb questions for the folks here though.
1. I'm guessing it's ok to join the 76140 team with the win 10 machine. I hope you folks aren't bothered. and
2. Do I put the same passkey on both machines? I'm running without a passkey on the win 10 machine right now.

Thanks
1) you are fine.
2) yes on both machines.

If they aren't using the GPUs and you want them to, look at the log tab select slot 01 and scroll to the bottom see if you're getting any warnings or errors. In my case I had an opencl error and with a simple google search I needed to adjust the opencl-index for -1 to 0, once that was corrected I got another error that a another simple google search told me I need to switch drivers . Then I was off to the races. If you don't have any errors and the GPUs just aren't getting any jobs. Check out these conversations 2 answers to the same question.

Hi Bern, you are talking about this panel, yes?

Could you be more specific about what you are talking about please? :)
What I think he's referring to and what I changed was is in the yellow box and it seemed to help. Screenshot
On the F@H configuration-guide check out 'Customize One Slot (Local setting)'

Thanks for the help folks. Those last 2 posts did the trick. Both machines have their GPU's running tasks now. Appreciated.

Glad I could help! Many others have helped me I'm glad I can pay it forward. Happy Folding.
Now I'm curious, may I ask what did the trick? There were a few suggestions.

It was this suggestion/advice that fixed it.

If they aren't using the GPUs and you want them to, look at the log tab select slot 01 and scroll to the bottom see if you're getting any warnings or errors. In my case I had an opencl error and with a simple google search I needed to adjust the opencl-index for -1 to 0.

This matched my condition perfectly.
Once the cl index was switched to 0 the GPU worked perfectly. The card is a 6 meg gtx 1060 btw. Thanks again.

Brell was merged in cazic years ago.

if you "have" titanium discs, you can play on the emulator server project 1999. The green server is classic repeating. Classic timeline etc.

I'm afraid the addiction is too deep. 3 paying accounts active and with retirement, plenty of time to play, much to my wife's chagrin. I never payed much attention to the mergers although I think the guild I'm in now started on Brell. Silent Redemption.

SR is still very high end. The active raiders are as committed a group as I have ever seen. I envy their dedication, but not the time they have to commit.

Hello,

I would like to join your team, but I need help first.

I am running FAH 7.6.9 on a Ryzen 5 2400g. The CPU is running fine, but I do not get the integrated GPU to work.

I think I have openCL installed. I did it as described by rene in this discussion

Code: Select all

sudo apt-get install ocl-icd-libopencl1 ocl-icd-opencl-dev mesa-opencl-icd
I can add a slot for the GPU by clicking Configure / Slots / Add and then select GPU.

The GPU is shown in FAHControl as "Raven [Ryzen vega 8 mobile]". That seems to be ok, because the integrated Vega chips are all identified as that.

FAHControl is even downloading WU, but they fail at start.

I guess I have done something wrong with the installation. Do you have an idea what it can be?

Thanks for any help that you can give me.

I've been googling your errors and warnings. It could be a driver issue it could be a config issue. These conversations might help you. Let me know if it does.

Thanks

Baldi wrote: Mon Apr 27, 2020 2:12 pm Hello,

You may have to install drivers for the GPU. Adding open CL is nice, but i do not believe open source drivers know what to do with it. If there isnt a driver in the driver manager, then manual install will need done. There is a sticky and alot of folks in the video card section that can help.

Hi,

thanks for the answers.

@r-miller96: As far as I understood the quoted discussion, it was suggested to
- set the client-type advanced flag
- set the opencl-index to 0 (from -1)

That did not bring a change.

@Citicen229: Your suggestion to install drivers: As far as I understand the driver for this GPU is the amdgpu dirver, which is part of the kernel. I did not find other drivers than that.

Hi,

check, wether your gpu is in the gpu.txt file. You will find it here: var/lib/fahclient

if not, follow the instructions here (scroll down)
https://foldingforum.org/viewtopic.php?t=26208

Hope this helps,
cheers Bernd

addendum: follow this brand new thread, maybe it helps ... https://foldingforum.org/viewtopic.php?f=81&t=34917

addendum 2: if its a integrated gpu, chances are that it wont work with fah, sorry
Linux Mint, what else....

A question for the assembly.

The folding is going well. It's very satisfying to slowly climb the team ladder, but I'm run up against my usual bottleneck. Bandwidth. I'm on satellite internet and up and downloading the folding data is quickly running me out of my monthly quota. I have a lot more avail in the early morning but I'm asleep then. My question is, is there any easy way to start folding at say 2AM and set it to finish and pause when done? I know nothing about macros or any scheduling programs available. Thanks in advance.

I used to do something similar, cutting off folding during peak energy-use times. Here are the relevant crontab entries that you could use:

To pause the client at 8AM:

Code: Select all

 00 08 * * *	/usr/bin/FAHClient --send-pause > /dev/null
To start the client at 9PM:

Code: Select all

00 21 * * *	/usr/bin/FAHClient --send-unpause > /dev/null
To start the client, finishing the current project at 11AM:

Code: Select all

00 11 * * *	/usr/bin/FAHClient --send-finish > /dev/null
