Merry Christmas to one and all, but particularly the members of "Team Linux"
Best wishes to all Keith.
Best wishes to all Keith.
Re: Folding@home-Team Linux Mint-76140
I stumbled on this thread recently, and realised that the desktop I had forgotten to turn off several days previously could have been doing some useful work instead of sitting idle. Folding at Home seems to be a valuable and worthwhile project to support, so I've installed the program and it's been beavering away in the background for a week now.
It's an old slow machine, producing 1800 work units a day using the cpu, but it's nice think that every little bit helps to get a step further in increasing knowledge of complicated biological processes.
Thanks for starting me off, Team Linux, a very happy Christmas to you all.
Bob

And I forgot to add, Why isn't this thread stickied to the top of the board?

900i,
I have been wondering where you had gone. It is sad to loose you, but I know the feeling about going for more cards.
As long as you are healthy and OK, then I wish you all the best.
p.s
Hope you come back some time with the cards you already have?
Keith

Re: Folding@home-Team Linux Mint-76140
Im kind of wondering how many coins we could have mined( over the years) had we been grinding for bitcoins for clem. And how well funded Mint would be now had we done it LOL
Re: Folding@home-Team Linux Mint-76140
Citizen229,
I too have wondered about bit-coins, but the more that I read the more confused I get.
I saw a video on You-tube of a single bit-coin mining rig. It was in a mans garage. It was a very small unit. The noise was staggering, and the man said that the heat it was generating heated the whole garage. You would not want to be within 10 foot of it.
I do not know where the rig was, but it has to be somewhere where electricity costs are very low indeed. It was pulling 2500 watts.
I have read that there are whole countries that are mining bit-coins, apparently government sponsored. You can't believe everything that you here, but for us I think that it would be very difficult to even get something up and running. It seemed to be too complicated for me
Best regards Keith

Can someone upload the GPU.txt in a post? I keep getting the unsecure connection error from standford.

Is this what you're looking for? It's the closest I could find; "GPUs.txt:

Yes thank you that was it. Client would not DL on reboot for some reason. I am now GPU folding again.

Re: Folding@home-Team Linux Mint-76140
just the gtx 1060 i was grinding before. Wish i had a ryzen 7 to go with it
Re: Folding@home-Team Linux Mint-76140
You might have to wait awhile to see your points, looks like extreme over clocking has crapped out again.
Re: Folding@home-Team Linux Mint-76140
Its ok. I should average 360k as before. No real surprise . Ive only been gone like 2 months
Re: Folding@home-Team Linux Mint-76140
Looks like I am going to be averaging above 400k. My lack of streaming as well as everything for 2 days has been core21. Not shedding a tear about core18 going away, those WU just didnt have the bonus like 21.
And gratz Greerd on 200 mil barrier. You got about 4 more days before Tinca starts leaving you in the dust.

Re: Folding@home-Team Linux Mint-76140
With my media center PSU dead, I am going to take advantage and combine my 2 rigs. My end goal is going to be the system running off the APU and the GPU stand alone. How much driver conflict am i going to have with running amd and nvidia drivers?
The bios is set to apu usage, going to assume plugging in a card will not cause conflict and fail to boot.
Will the driver manager still recognize the card and allow drivers to be applied to the device as headless?
Did you guys ever figure out how to do this with intel video?
Mental note revert to open source drivers before changing hardware.

welcome to the Linux Mint Folding Team. The more the merrier.
I have only just spotted you on the stats page.
If there is anyone else using Mint who would like to join us you would be more than welcome.
Best regards Keith

Re: Folding@home-Team Linux Mint-76140
Just saw that the other day myself. I second the welcome aboard!
Anyone else been considering a ryzen upgrade?
I would like the new G-series for my media center. Vega drivers are still a joke. But the old folding rig is still running FX CPU. I can build a cheap replacement set for the folding rig with the dual core A series APU (35w). if it was just CPU and mobo, the upgrade would actually pay itself off over time. But I fear the added cost of jumping to ddr4 will not let that happen. I have declocked the snot out of the FX cpu. 2.1 ghtz @ 1.1v. The math is telling me, i got it down to about 57 watts for the cpu, for hard cap. should be less than that for 24 hour average.

Re: Folding@home-Team Linux Mint-76140
Hi team,
I have jumped the boat early and downloaded Mint19 beta Mate 64 bit.
The reason for my haste is that I have just purchased a SSD and was eager to see if I could get it working. I wanted Mint19 on the SSD and my home directory on a conventional drive.
Well it all worked Ok, at the second attempt.
Folding? I overcome the Python problem and the GPUs.txt, and finally got allocated a slot for the GPU, but I could not get it to fold. It throws an error

I really like Mint19 Mate and if I could have got the folding up and running I would be using it now. It is very nice indeed.
Best regards Keith
