Power failures could be caused by the air conditioners been used in your area, I can only assume.

Hi LazyDev,

it is very unlikely that our recent power cuts have anything to do with air conditioning. Most homes in the UK do not have such a luxury. The same with electric cars, there are very few of them about. When the power goes out it takes about 10,000 homes in the area down. It is only at that time do you realise just how much we depend on it.

The UK has been told for some years that we will suffer black outs due to the power supply being used to its maximum. Lack of new electricity production is sadly short.

If we decide to build nuclear power stations to make the supply, they take years to build and come on line. We would certainly need many more than one.

Lets hope that this area does not have any more for a while.

Best regards Keith

Hmm.... looks like we got some disparity between Extreme OC and FAH. On Extreme OC, I'm missing 212K points and 5 work units. Looks like we all had a hole in time. I had noticed sometime during that period that I couldn't access the FAH stats. Sure hope it catches up to us somehow. Anyone else see their math coming up short between the two?

Mine looks normal, FAH shows one more WU and approx 40k more points than Extreme OC.

greerd,

Yes sir, you are correct. Earlier, at Extreme OC it showed my production as "0" for each time period since 9:00 pm last night. However, I see just in the last couple of hours it finally caught up. Appears to have lumped the missing data in on the 3:00 pm update.

It seems the website (http://folding.extremeoverclocking.com) is broken. It's not updating.

Hopefully it just upgrades, but nothing on the Stats Home/News page. The last news entry was after the fact, so maybe this is the case again.

Congratulations to tinca, our newest member of the 100Meg club, while it probably doesn't feel as good as the Mile-high club, its something!

As far as Extreme Overclocking, from the forum
It is an older server, so yes it can take a bit. In this case the official stats are updating, just the script that creates the flat files for use by third-party stats has stopped and needs restarting.

They are working on moving to a new server, there will be an announcement when that is closer to being rolled out as a replacement.
Cheers

Hi greerd

thank you for the words of praise. Things are going well here apart from the power failures.

I did try to overclock the GPU but in the end I have just left it as standard and there does not appear to be much difference. The GPU is currently running at 57c.

The mile high club is a little bit above me (no pun intended).

I notice that out man 900i is missing in action. Possibly he is on holiday, or he could be encountering some problems with his new fancy rig. Hope to see hime back soon.

Best regards Keith

So..... I've just come across this. The technical side of it completely escapes me but the reason is good !

I have two computers which tend to run 24/7 or at least quite a lot.
1 is a Win 10 computer (GTX1070) , the other a FreeNAS system (i3 only, no graphics card or anything).

I figure since they are on anyway they might as well be doing something useful.

Does anyone know if I can run this folding bizzo on either or both of these? And if so can I still get counted toward team linuxmint?

Hi vladtepes ,

good to see you.

everybody in our folding team has more experience than I do and I am sure that one of them will be able to get you up and running.

It will be good to see another GTX1070 folding.

best regards Keith

Hi vladtepes,

I don't know if your FreeNAS will fold or if it's worth it, cpu's only acquire a small fraction of the points that a gpu gets, but if you can install the folding software on it, it will probably work.

GPU's are by far the best bang for the buck for normal riggs, if you look at our team stats on extremeoverclocking scroll down to the Top 20, everyone who is making above 100 kppd is using a gpu. Also note that tinca is running a gtx 1070 and is by far our best producer so your 1070 would be more than welcome, although it seems strange to be on Team Linux Mint with a windows box, if your heart is with us go for it.

Read the first couple of pages of this thread for more info, like why use a key and how etc. but basically add our team number (76140) in the setup of the folding software. I don't know if Windows folding setup is different than Linux so you might be on your own for specific Windows issues.

Good luck and happy folding.

Can't the client now run on "heterogeneous" systems, i.e. use the CPU and the onboard graphics?

A windblows install gives the same UI for FAH. Shouldnt need coolbits, should just need maufactuers clocking utility to control clocks. MSI Afterburner for example.

I'm using the intel graphics to render my desktop, and optirun for the Nvidea GPU. It seems to be stable, but has a huge overhead when gaming. My PPD doesn't seem to be affected by this, tho.

Well it looks like my rig has taken one more step to slowely dying. The onboard LAN died years ago. the front usb2.0 have power issues and fry usb stick. And yesterday I rebooted to a boot fault and prompt. Bios showed no SSD. Switched the sata port and she is running again. I do not think I have much longer with this old fx4350 rig. The ryzen I desire is still too rich for my blood. Im looking at building a cheap small media center. going with FM2+ stuff cause its cheap and i have 4x4 ram I can pull 2 sticks out of my main rig. For 260 bucks I will get a complete second PC by vampiring 2 sticks of RAM from my main rig, which never need 16 gigs to begin with. I have been wanting to get my main rig off my TV for a while now, so the media center is getting built. I hope this 4350 rig lasts untill well after the first of the year. If it dies, I will be out of folding for a while.

Hi All,

really good news at last. We now stand at 200 in the ratings. Not sure how long this will last as there are teams coming up fast behind us.

I am doing my little dance here before something changes. Well done everybody

We can still use another few people with decent graphic cards to help us go further up the ladder.

Best regards Keith

we are there at last. We are 199. This is a new milestone in the Mint teams history. A nice Christmas present. Well done everybody.

We will struggle to make much more headway, we desperately need another couple of members with decent graphic cards. Here's hoping.

Hopefully we'll climb the page faster than we get passed, looks like we should, but the more the merrier, page uno's going to be a tough hall.

Wonder what happened to 900i, I liked reading about his 'latest incarnations'.

Merry Christmas to all members of Team Linux Mint!
