Hi all,

I too thought that I would be down for a couple of days, but in the end it all went well.

My wife has Raynaud's, which is a disease that makes her fingers and toes believe that they are being frozen by cold, and because of that our central heating is always on. Even in the winter it feels like a hot summers day.

Because of this my computer is always struggling to stay at a useable temperature. I have one radiator already fitted to the top of my Corsair 620T white case and there is not really enough room for another radiator. I decided to mount 2 radiators on the outside of the side panel of the case, with 4 fans on the inside of the computer case side panel sucking in air through the 2 radiators.

It all went well with the hardest job being to fit the longer screws through the fans and the grill and to get them to go into the holes of the radiators. They really are not long enough.

A poor quality image of the finished project.Image

It has lowered all of the temperatures in the case. The one that surprised me most was the CPU which has a water cooled Corsair H100i fitted. It dropped that temperature by 7 degrees.

Best regards Keith

My wife and kids used to do that but I fixed it by stripping down to just my underpants...

...and refusing to put clothes on when any of them had visitors :)

Hi all,
I see that we have new folders in the team, so welcome to them. We are slowly getting nearer to our target.

A short while ago "bantano" dropped in and said that he was from an ex coin mining team. Does anyone know if coin mining is slowing down or even coming to a halt. The reason for the question is that with the advent of coin mining the price of graphic cards shot through the roof. The cost of a new high end card is prohibitive and that is because of the rise of coin mining. A large drop in the price would enable more non coiners to push the Protein Folding program even harder.

the main reason Ngreedia is selling there cards so high is they, literally have no competition till Q3 this year. between july and september somtime AMD will Drop a few more cards in the market, prices should come down at that point.

Hi, just quick correction: I'm from BANANO (https://banano.cc) and our coin is cool because it doesn't require mining at all, and transactions are feeless. We, however, distribute all coins for free, and use the foldingathome project as faucet to make sure people don't exploit the faucet too easily. They contribute to medical research and get BANANO for that, easy.

Subsequently I am not an expert in crypto mining at all and can't tell how graphic card prices are developing

Cheers,
bantano

Hi All,
Quick note to say 'Hello' as I've recently returned to folding after a multi-year absence and joined the team with three folding machines, Izzy, Milo and Jaffa, named after my three cats !!!!
I'm currently folding on a GTX1080ti, GTX1060 3GB, one Ryzen 1700 and two Ryzen 1500's.
So looking forward to the team making it onto the first page of the Extreme Overclocking stats page.

Wow, welcome aboard CeeVee777, just out of curiosity, how are your units configured? Which unit is cpu only, etc?

Cheers

Hi,
I've currently got the Ryzen 1700 as Cpu only, one of the Ryzen 1500's has the Gtx1080ti and the other one has a GTX1030 as the screen gpu with the GTX1060 as folding only. In total the machines are registering 1.5m to 1.8m PPD.

I'm currently considering swapping the 1080ti for 2, (perhaps 3), GTX1060 3GB. I'm on a budget as far as electricity costs go and I also need to distribute the heat around my systems a little more evenly, so I'm thinking that 3 1060 3GB = 1 1080ti as far as PPD goes and they're 100W rather than 250W GPU's.

I'm also looking at my HTPC machine which is and AMD 8350 APU with 4core CPU and AMD R3 GPU in a Streacom passively cooled case. It's a very low powered machine (25W), but Im not sure it would manage enough PPD to be worth while even with CPU and GPU folding.

Seems the more "valuable" WUs are back, at least. Last three have been 475, 625 and 925 points respectively. Certainly better than the all-time worst at 2! Slowly chugging away ..

Thanks, tinca! To be honest I really wasn't expecting to be in the top 100 on Team Linux Mint; certainly not to still be overtaking others, with my current setup. Maybe those I'm passing aren't leaving their machines on all the time like I am.

I might see what can be done with my NB520. The hard-disk controller appears to be on the fritz (it's alreeady killed one HDD) so it'll be network boot if I can figure that out, or off an SD card if the PLOP Linux Boot Disk (yes, it's on a 3½" floppy disk!) works for those as well as USB sticks. I could make a custom Live ISO with networking & the FAH client already configured & run it from that.
