Doesn't have to be. I have tried Windows 10 on my laptop when it was "free" to install and reduced the start menu to the very basics: all tiles were deleted. What was left was the traditional start menu with the list of programs in alphabetical order.
Please don't ask how I did it, I don't know and I really don't care. I now have my favorite KDE menu, small and it has everything I need in a menu.
Yes, it can be made more usable. But

a) How many users are going to know o even look for menu settings change?
b) It's a fair amount of work!

The worst nightmare ever perpetuated on poor computer users. This is what windows really is. I cannot think of any operating system that needs some sort of 3rd party support just to even keep the filesystem in some sort of shape. It really doesnt matter what version of windows your using, They all need crutches to survive.

Of course from my experience repairing systems I find that there is a bigger joke just waiting to happen to unsuspecting users.

Take two windows 10 computers. One one make a homegroup. Now on the other go join the homegroup. Now, reboot a few times to make sure they are working fine and then on the second computer quit the home group. What happens is you lose all network discovery. Its like you are living in a zombie homegroup. You have internet access but thats about it as far as networking is concerned. This is what happened to a client of mine. I have him now setup for a total re-install (moving back to windows 7) coming up tomorrow. I would like to see if anyone can duplicate this issue. Its weird because I can reboot and sometimes it will rediscover the wired network printers and then if it goes into sleep mode or a power down (shut off) its back to the zombie homegroup.

Windows has been a great money maker for me but I would never run it on any of my systems. I am a total Mint fan and I run ubuntu server too.

The linux community has shown time after time that they have totally outclassed M$ in every way.

it's a sad topic, actually

somehow we all have to face the truth in running Windows:
(1) you are the jackpot in the game of whac-a-mole between MSFT, the computer hackers and the NSA; and
(2) you are sharing a lot of your information with MSFT "Telemetry" system
(3) while you are waiting for your MSFT/Windows system to finish updating and re-starting itself you will have time to ponder the question: what does this thing really do all the time, anyway ?

the only way to win is: don't play.

my only solution to this problem of all versions of windows

Mind you I didn't keep it up to date to add version 10, running out of room for tombstones

You could always remove the Windows 7 stone to make room for 10... 7 was (and is still) one of the better Windows, IMHO.
8 on the other hand... that thing needs two stones.

working on his photo library my brother gazed at his laptop and in frustration he said "Computers used to be fun"

it takes a while -- it's only natural -- to get comfortable with Linux -- but -- yes: computers can be fun again!

the essential difference is that the O/S and GUI are supposed to be tools facilitating the operator's work. The essence of converting from MSFT to Linux is...... you give up being used and manipulated -- and resume doing whatever it is you like to do!

Yes: Computers can be fun, again !!

( I have a core i5 build order worked up for his Intro to Linux box. tee hee -- it's a hammer :) )

One thing I would suggest, create a partition a ~28G partition as /. Partition the rest as /Home.
When the system fails, reinstall and use the exact same username and all your 'stuff' comes back to you.

Ah yes, Maxwell House is actually one of my go to brands. Anything but Starbucks. Have you ever tried Stok cold-brew coffee shots? Add one to your cup of coffee and you're like  for about an hour.

Never did try those. I usually brew a pot of coffee in the morning about 5am (EST) and then by mid afternoon I start up another :) . My Cuisinart coffee maker with the insulated cafe is pretty decent. Keeps the coffee hot almost all day.

https://www.amazon.com/Cuisinart-DTC-97 ... ffee+maker

Does a good job and have had it for about 2 years now :)

In the past I tried Folgers and kinda gagged on it. lol... Just do not care for the taste.

Starbucks? I went in one once and asked for a regular cup of coffee. They couldnt figure it out. So, Considering the price I just never went back.

I love my coffee though!
