My grandma used to have a dog named BJ. I'm not sure if she's alive though, since she was pretty old when I first saw her (I was about 4).

LOL. I had to talk to a guy once who ran, and then decided to turn around and bite the police dog. It did not end well for him. They did manage to re-attach his ear and nostril, and 40 other sutures to close all of the other bites and punctures.

The Golden is sleeping now, and is chasing something in her dreams, it is funny to watch her sleep run.

When I was a kid we did not have dogs at our house.

When I turned 19 and had my own place things changed... For the past 41 years I have always had dogs.

The best solution for that is to get another dog quick.

We lost our well beloved St. Bernard to cancer, at the tender age of 7....

We started looking and found a Great Pyrenees, she is all white, and very loving, and very much watchful when outside. No one gets close without her alerting us.

I am sorry for the loss of your friend. A dog gives their love and companionship to you and expects only a food bowl and a little tenderness in return.
Never use the expression...replace my dog....for I have learned that none are replaceable. Each is unique, but all give their life to you.

I have always shared my life with a dog and at the age of 81 have lost many. I feel your loss. r

This is an article I have kept for many years. For dog lovers... Dog's Prayer

By Beth Norman Harris

Treat me kindly my beloved master, for no heart in all the world is more grateful for kindness than the loving heart of me.

Do not break my spirit with a stick, or though I should lick your hand between the blows, your patience and understanding will more quickly teach me the things you would have me do.

Speak to me often, for your voice is the world's sweetest music, as you must know by the fierce wagging of my tail when your footstep falls upon my waiting ear.

When it is cold and wet, please take me inside...for I am now a domesticated animal, no longer used to bitter elements...and I ask no greater glory than the privilege of sitting at your feet beside the hearth...though had you no home, I would rather follow you through ice and snow than rest upon the sofest pillow inthe warmest home in all the land...for you are my god...and I am your devoted worshiper.

Keep my pan filled with fresh water, for although I should not reproach you were it dry. I cannot tell you when I suffer thirst. Feed me clean food, that I may stay well, to romp and play and do your bidding, to walk by your side, and stand ready, willing and able to protect you with my life, should your life be in danger.

And, beloved master, should the Great Master see fit to deprive me of my health or sight, do not trun me away from you. Rather hold me gently in your arms as skilled hands grant me the merciful boon of eternal rest...and I will leave you knowing with the last breath I drew, my fate was ever safest in your hands. r

People who know me do also know, that I usually hate full quotes. But here I cannot resist and have to do an exception. It is so wonderful.

A big thank you - from me and from my four legged lady! :D

Jim,
I fully agree here... no matter how mad I get at what our Great Pyrenees has managed to get into, when I clap my hands and she comes running to me, I go to great lengths to ooh and awww all over her, and play with her face, and tingle behind her ears.....

both of our dogs come running when I clap my hands, we have our house encircled with a cyclone fence, and they love to run round and round, and when on the back side, the only way to get them to hear me is to clap my hands....

We live adjacent to railroad tracks, and they pass us by many times an hour.... and clapping hands seems to get through even the train noise, and they come running.

One thing I would suggest, create a partition as a 50G partition as /. Partition the rest as /Home. IF the system fails, reinstall and use the exact same username and all your 'stuff' comes back to you.
