WiFi driver - how to install
WiFi driver - how to install
Hi guys,
I have an old box based on mobo ASUS P5B-MX/WiFi-AP Solo (with integrated ASUS WiFi module)
I ran Linux Mint on it for years, and WiFi module was supported out of the box.
Now I install Ubuntu 16.04 Server into this box - and at installation time the kernel does not see the WiFi module (has no driver for it)! How is it possible?
How can I install the driver for this WiFi module after installation?
Thank you!

Post this.
Code: Select all
inxi -Fnxxxz ; nmcli radio wifi on ; rfkill list all
Re: WiFi driver - how to install
Thank you asinoro! This should take place after install? It installs the driver or just turns the radio on? Will try!

It try's to turn wifi on and you give specification of your system and hardware.

Why are you asking Ubuntu Server questions on a Mint forum?

Re: WiFi driver - how to install
You consider this an off-topic? My thought was that Linux Mint is based on Ubuntu, and Linux Mint can do that. Is detecting WiFi cards - a premium feature of specifically Linux Mint?
OK, sorry about that.

Yup, this is off-topic. We're not an Ubuntu forum. Besides, the Ubuntu forum is very good too, so you'll get decent help there, no worries.

If your issue is solved, kindly indicate that by editing the first post in the topic, and adding [SOLVED] to the title. Thanks!

That's a moderator's call. I believe you'll get better and faster answers in an appropriate ubuntu forum.

Moved to open chat as this is not about discussing Linux but about getting support with another operating system. The best place to get support with other operating systems is through their support channels.
Linux Mint 18.x use the same kernels as Ubuntu 16.04 so should have the same hardware support (when using the same kernel version). Perhaps you used an older release of Linux Mint on this computer though? Something to look into on your end.

I suspect the server version may lack wifi drivers, see if there are results for
It might help to post results for
Code: Select all
ls /lib/modules/$(uname -r)/kernel/drivers/net/wireless
lshw -c net
