Forum Links - when Clicked on, does not open a New Tab
This is a major pet peeve of mine.
Nearly all forums that I visit, when you click on a hotlink, it will open up a New Tab so that the thread you are Reading Now will remain on the screen.
This is extremely necessary when you are trying to read the current thread, and then look at the referenced link to see what is being talked about.....
But on this forum click a hot link and the Current Thread disappears.
I have to constantly remember to use Right-Click "open with new tab"....
this is a major PITA....
Why has this not been fixed?

Does your pointing device have a middle button? If so try that.
Does your browser allow you to set a preference for opening links?

Indeed, middle click (press the scroll wheel down) opens in new tab. As does holding down Ctrl key and left click.
If you really want to make it permanent on just left click, you can look into greasemonkey. There are various scripts floating around for it to make external links on websites open in a new tab.
The forum software we're using doesn't have a configuration option to open external links in a new tab. Even if there were such an option I'm not sure we'd enable it.

Yes to both questions,
The middle button will open a new tab, but that is not needed on any other forum I use.
I remember that when the errant click on this forum leaves the thread, then I have to Backup and middle click or right-click which is my 'muscle memory' thing to do.
Middle click does not always open new tabs.
. GreaseMonkey is not Firefox, I tried it, and deleted it.
I will have to add the Control key to my muscle memory I guess.....
Re: Forum Links - when Clicked on, does not open a New Tab
As I use Firefox ESR I can use the Tab Mix Plus extension. (I don't now, if this works with the one or other FF fork.) There I can set, that links to other domains get automatically displayed in a new tab. Very convenient. So links inside of the forum stay inside of the current tab, others do not.
Besides that you can right click the links and use the option to open it in a new tab.

Re: Forum Links - when Clicked on, does not open a New Tab
I usually just default to RightClick T and open a new tab.... but that takes two hands....
just an irritation.... I will try the Tab Mix Plus extension and see how that works out.
Tab Mix Plus is more trouble than it is worth.....
on normal forum, it opens every thread in a new tab.... that won't work for me.
deleted it.

Re: Forum Links - when Clicked on, does not open a New Tab
I agree with the OP, links on the forum should open in a new tab. This is the only forum I use where they don't.

Amen,
I agree, this is the ONLY forum I have seen where it does not work correctly.
It needs to be fixed, and not trying to force the viewers to use cribbaged up methods to use the forum easily.

Greasemonkey is an extension for Firefox. I think you're thinking of something else.

the "monkey" I was thinking of was "SeaMonkey" web browser.... sorry 'bout that.
I just installed the extension Greasemonkey and will learn how to use it.
thank you
Re: Forum Links - when Clicked on, does not open a New Tab
Than you configured it wrongly. If I left click from the index list on a thread or from a post to another post inside of the forum I get them opened in the same thread. Using TMP since years in FF ESR (I don't know which browser you use).
Re: Forum Links - when Clicked on, does not open a New Tab
Work is underway to migrate TMP to WebExtensions format so it will work with current Firefox versions. Development version is available here: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefo ... extension/

Ha, great. Now I finally have found out what the middle button of my touchpad is good for.
Press touchpad middle button = <ctrl><left mouse click>

Re: Forum Links - when Clicked on, does not open a New Tab
I have mentioned multiple times in this thread that "Firefox" is the only browser in the world that is "worth a crap" IMO because it is the only browser that supports Bookmarks properly...
ie, I can use kybd shortcuts and go to any bookmark I wish w/o using a mouse. Guess I will have to add Firefox to my Signature...
I will take a fresh look at TMP

I saw that myself, and just assumed that it will NOT work yet in FF 59.0.2xenopeek wrote: ⤴Mon Apr 02, 2018 4:12 pm Work is underway to migrate TMP to WebExtensions format so it will work with current Firefox versions. Re: Forum Links - when Clicked on, does not open a New Tab
I saw several remarks by one of the admins of the TMP forum mentioning, that TMP works with Waterfox quite well.
Re: Forum Links - when Clicked on, does not open a New Tab
Until I migrated to Linux I was using FF ESR because I did like the options that TMP offered. I can't wait until they convince it to work with FF Quantum. I detest the middle click to open new tabs (half the time the wheel rolls as I am clicking). <Ctrl><Click> works well, but I've got to use two hands for that.

Helping a friend out today.
Searching for links to get help, this link popped up.
His mouse wheel does not perform the double click, new tab
I worked on it for a while, gave up.
pulled the Mouse off my laptop, and it works just like it is supposed to.
Press wheel and it acts like double click, new tab opens up.

I was browsing the thread when up pops a response from Cosmo. My excitement was squashed flat when I noticed it was from 2018.
