PureVPN Money Back

Post by wf54 » Thu Apr 19, 2018 3:47 am

Question, has anyone managed to get a refund from PureVPN?

After around four hours of trying to install from the manager, which they say that it supports. I decided enough was enough and ask for a refund under their three day money back guarantee.
The response from them was for me to download the packages once again and use more command line instructions, which failed by the way.

Makes you wonder about all the great service reviews, if you ask for a refund you don't want to mess about with another attempt..
Waiting for another reply, it's as though they are trying to stall until the three day refund period, then say tough  .

Got a reply saying that there should be no problem with a refund but could I give it another go.
Since I'm hopeless with the terminal, I thought why not,
So I allowed the assistant took over my desktop, what the hell he's an expert and I may have made a silly mistake in the hours that I failed.
Two hours later, the chat closed down and ask for my vote, I still had several windows open including the terminal and no way to contact them.
Another email requesting refund, see what happens,
I was going to go for Nord VPN but was put off by the reviews saying it was difficult to set-up on Mint.
If PureVPN was supposed to be easy God help me with Nord then.

As for the refund, they have been as good as their word, so it's first class on that score, just not idiot proof to use. :)

wf54,

Do they make vpn configuration files available to download that are imported from network manager :?:

That procedure is pretty simple.

Hi wf54,
VPN s come in a broad range with lots of opinions so it really depends exactly what you are looking for from a VPN.

There are VPNs that can be used from your browser by simply adding a browser extension sometimes called an add-on. You will have to sign-up for an account but the installation process could not be more simple - add an extension to your browser. Some are even free. That said I have not tested any of these so cannot vouch for how good or effective they are so you would have to try them out and/or research them. However one that comes highly recommended from a trusted source IMO (Security Now) is Tunnel Bear.

I use Private Tunnel which is associated with OpenVPN. I like the performance (speed) I get, which seemed to be a big issue with other VPNs (some that other folks swear by on this forum so I will not mention names to prevent getting a flame war strted). I guess the bad thing is that they do not have a GUI for linux and everything has to be done from the terminal. For me that is no big deal but I can appreciate that the terminal is a show stopper for you. However I will add that the instructions are straight forward and easy. You may want to go to the site and look them over to see if you are comfortable with them.

PureVPN has a FF addon that works,

My PureVPN account is on Annual Renewal darn it, I decided against renewing it, damn, saw an email the very next day that my renewal for 'next year' has already gone thru.

I am turning Auto Renewal OFF on everything now, that is the last one that I had overlooked.

OpenVPN installed and worked "out of the box".

even after talking to a 'native American sounding" CS agent on PureVPN who helped me get it installed on my 18.3 Cinnamon, bit quit working the very next day. so I deleted it.

I use NordVPN and have found it to be very stable and reliable with Linux. Installing it isn't hard, (even I managed not to stuff it up) just follow the instructions on NordVPN's download page

While the installation for PureVPN was a nightmare and even after taking over my computer for two hours.
They did honour their refund so in that respect for my experience I have to give them 10/10.

As a foot note I signed up with PrivateVPN and although the installation wasn't for Mint, and different, I installed it without a hitch.
Nothing is perfect though.
I've been informed that I have a IPv6 leak and to 'Please use OpenVPN port 1196 to connect or disable IPv6 on your GNU/Linux Mint system altogether'.
Looked on here, found a Nord fix using the Terminal but couldn't get it to work, there's idiot proof but I apparently need it to been gold standard idiot proof .

In hind site the leak must have been on while I was using IPVanish as Sky was blocking the same sights,
So is it possible that service providers using IPv6 as a means to block [spy] on you?
