I love Mint, but after about a year with it I have to go back to work with some windows only programs I need for my business. I am having a heck of a time creating a bootable USB of Windows 7.
I format NTFS, flag boot, use Unetbootin, restart, go into BIOS and boot direct from USB.....am I missing something? I just get a black screen. How do I go about trouble shooting this? BIOS settings are jacked up maybe?

Re: reverting to win7
From what I recall, Unetbootin doesn't make good Windows usbs.
Maybe you could try WoeUSB ? https://github.com/slacka/WoeUSB#installation

Re: reverting to win7
I actually tried Woe and had same result, I think the USB is good. How can I check if it's actually bootable? Are there some obvious BIOS settings I'm overlooking?
Re: reverting to win7
the USB most probably should be Fat32 & not in NTFS format.
- maybe Format again as Fat32 & then copy the ISO back onto the USB again.
did you check that the checksum was correct, for that ISO ?.

Re: reverting to win7
A different tack.. a) are you certain that there are no Linux alternatives? I'm guessing not so b) will those programs run in WINE or other Windows emulator? I've not attempted to run any Windows from USB since XP so can offer no relevant solutions. You can run an Ultimate Boot CD from USB (XP based) but I cannot recall if you can also install programs to it. Hiren is also XP based IIRC.

@ architeuthis
Have you tried a program named, "Etcher"? The computer shop where I help out sometimes uses this program and it works for them when they need to create a bootable USB drive. It will work for linux, windows and mac.

Re: reverting to win7
I tried etcher, but it gave a warning not to use it to write Windows ISOs, so I retried it with Woe. Same result. I'm really convinced it's either an underlying issue with the ISO or a BIOS setting issue.
Are there particular BIOS settings that I may have changed to get Mint working that won't allow a USB boot of windows? I'll have to do some research on the cheksum, of my ISO as well.
