Just bought a 2018 Intel NUC7 Pentium Mini PC NUC7PJYH1 for $180 US total. It is barebones but I have had others so already have an SSD', and of course Linux Mint. It has the Intel Pentium Silver J5005 Processor. With $90 for 8GB RAM the total after tax and shipping was $270 US.

RAM is dual-channel DDR4-2400 (8GB max).

This has recent Iris graphics (late 2017) UHD graphics 605 embedded.

EDIT; One thing to consider is the cost of RAM. The more sophisticated cpu' have more expensive RAM and it is not interchangeable with the cheaper RAM from the celeron units.

All my machines are 15.6 inch display laptops and all were purchased new for 200 to 400 U$D from Dell.

My latest machine has a 15.6" display, Intel i3 CPU (2GHz), Intel on CPU graphics, 4GB RAM, 1 TB HDD - $379 delivered to my front door. Bought is as a host for LM19 - I wanted to get a "modern" machine for my new OS... my other laptops are at least 4 years old! I am currently testing my new box with LM19C64 and, so far, everything seems to be working as expected.

I recently paid $335 for a refurbed Dell 7010 with an i7 3770 and 12GB of ram. This thing will last me for years..
My prior system was a C2Quad@2.33 w/8GB ram that I might have had $150 in, used that for 6 years.
I like buying older high end systems, lots of power on the cheap.

Lenovo ThinkPad X131e i3-3227u (refurb) - $110 from ebay. Came with Windows 10 pre-installed. Originally planning on installing Windows 7 on it but after a week of using Windows 10, I figured I should prepare an exit strategy. Now I just need to figure out how to multiboot with btrfs subvolumes for testing various distros.

Two years ago I bought a new Dell with W10 but left it as is. To difficult to dual boot anymore. I use to dual boot, even triple boot. The two links I found here did not have the same details. I don't want to spend days on the forums.
I need it for my iPhone and iPad and iTunes anyway. Never mess with anything that works.

I would love to see a video of someone taking an original Macintosh Plus case and retrofitting it with an appropriately-sized LCD panel, appropriate MOBO with a re-done rear port panel, internal SSD drive, maybe just for kicks an internal floppy drive (again, no idea how one would rig this) and that would be one sweet little ride, wouldn't it?

i got my desktop computer from the garbage in 2009. got a used nvidia 8800GT from the garbage as well. things went well until last year my nvidia broke and bought 9800GT for $40. i bought a new cpu for $20 but motherboard is not willing to use my new cpu at 1333mhz so i'm fine with that the new cpu operates at lower temperatures. other than that original parts except i added three 2TB drives.

Desktop minus ssd/hd's total was £540 two years ago. My ssd was pulled from a broken laptop and the HD's have been picked up over the years so prices vary. The case is about 10 years old and in a right mess, but who cares?... Paid £180 for my GTX, just looked at current prices £361.99!!!... so got lucky ( damn bitcoin miners ). The Mrs, who is a gamer, has an i7 coffee lake 16GB RAM and GTX 1080.. nearly 2 grand in total.. her money, can waste it if she wants

Planning on making this a server soon and upgrading to the Intel Core i5 8400 or 8500 with 16GB RAM as apart from gpu's prices are a bit more sensible now.

Acer Aspire E1 572P - intel Core i5-4200U 1.6Ghz with turboboost up to 2.6GHz - 15.6" HD Multi touch LCD - it came with a 750 GB HDD and 4GB DDR3 Memory, but I've up graded it with a Samsung 860 EV0 sata 6Gb/s V-NAND SSD and have added 8GB DDR3 Memory giving me a total of 12GB. If I remember it cost me about £450:00 I purchased it and I see now that they are still going for around the £400.00 so it has kept is value and I am very happy with it

Very pleased with how that all turned out, made a "slouch" performer turn into a very snappy PC.
