I am at a motorcycle rally with very good friends in Greendale, Indiana: we have gotten together for almost 18 years now at different places around the country.... twice in Canada.... great country.

One of my very good friends is from Ontario, Canada.
He just told a story that occurred just today:

He just told us about him and one of our mutual friends while they were in a bank here in Greendale, Indiana, USA.

The cashier was a lady from Winnipeg, Canada.... he caught her accent. and asked if she was from around Winnipeg?
"Why yes, I am".

His friend queued right up and said to her.
"Hey, I know you, we went to school together in Winnipeg."

She looked at him funny, waited a minute, then said to her
bank cashier friend, ?? "I can't remember him, must have slept with him and forgot?"


They kept their mouth shut and left the bank.

We are looking at returning to Canada in 3 years, we were there in 2014 and 2008.
Once near the Niagara Falls area, and I missed the one near Toronto. My avatar reflects why I missed that one, that was January 2008... and I was in recovery for a year.

I will make that suggestion to our selection committee....
Our first rule is: there must be a local host who knows, and lives near the area of concern.

they have to find a hotel and campgrounds nearby.

Here we have over 40 motorcycles, and 7 of them are camping in trailers they brought with them.

2 of that group have rooftop Dometic A/C units on their tiny popups....

the campgrounds here at 8 miles N.E of Lawrenceburg, IN and in the river bottom land....
beautiful, manicured like a home lawn, electric available if you want it.

a cabin with showers and toilets...

That is one place that I refuse to go see.
I was almost there last summer, our rally was held in Sioux Falls, SD
and a lot of us went a week early and worked out of Hot Springs, SD and toured the area for a couple 100 miles around, and then went to Sioux Falls.

We purposely ignored Sturgis, none of us have any interest in mingling with that noise and confusion and 'skin'.
it is okay for those who enjoy it, but I ride a Honda Goldwing GL1800 because:
no noise
smooth as glass
creature comforts
cruise control
Air Conditioning ( ah yes, a lady asked me what those vents are for on the dash? )
my reply? why ma'am, that is the Air conditioner outlets, lets cold air hit you in the face ( on a Winter's day )

2 of my buds were with me, and we all giggled a lot.... ( after she left )

When I left home just north of Tulsa, Oklahoma, the temps were 94*F

the bike is here with me in Lawrenceburg, Indiana.....





I rode in comfort.....
but, the accident in my Avatar resulted in 3 head concussions, one of which destroyed my Hypothalamus gland, and thus, my body's ability to deal with Temperature swings. The doctor said "You are now going to:

A) find warmer clothes,
B) find air conditioning

your choice, or die... that simple.

68-82 is my comfort zone now.

My bike riding friends up here said almost the exact same thing about the week we are talking about. They did go there weeks (months?) later and really enjoyed the scenery and counrysides.
I am sorry to hear about your accident . . but am really glad to have been able to converse with you.

I was going to make a smart remark about, "That bike is meant to be ridden, NOT towed by a tin top", but your explanation makes sense. I know your problem well, not that I lost my hypothalmus, but I was written off by a drunk. Fortunately I was in a car, so I had some protection. I no longer work as a result. Anyway, BOT.
We were in A&E with the missus some time back, (in Adelaide) and the young doctor comes in, and during the conversation, Darwin (on the other side of Australia) gets mentioned. Her response "I thought the name was familiar, I went to school with your son!" Now that makes us feel OLD!

Before my intervention with that Penske semi-tractor, I was 6 weeks short of my 65th birthday.
and at the time, lived and worked in Phoenix, AridZona, USA ( of course, where else ) for Phoenix Fire Department.

Temps there in August/September ran 110*F for 100 days straight, overnight lows of 91-95 were very common.

As a Computer Technican/know it all...... I was working on a Panasonic Toughbook Model 31 at the time, and sitting in the cab of the "Apparatus" engine #127 which had just pulled into the Apparatus Bay.... the Ambient was 115 that day, the truck was hotter........ I knew better, but forgot to drink a lot of water while in the "apparatus" ( you don't dare call them anything else but) and the "driver" Engineer was standing at the open passenger's door ( Captain's Seat ) and I suddenly just bailed out of the truck head first for the concrete floor....

he was fast, he caught me halfway down......... the EMTs there pumped 3 liters of normal saline into my veins, then carried me to the hospital and they pumped in 3 more liters..... the ER doctor gave me on piece of advice.

"sonny, you are 65 years old now, right?"
uh yeah............
doc: 'you can't work like you are 25 anymore you stupid piece of sh*t, cut that crap out, because this is you last and only change of surviving another heatstroke!

then about 5 months later, that Penski truck tried to kill me.........
so, they retired me, and sent me home.

11 months later, I left AridZona and moved back to where I was raised and have good friends, Oologah, Oklahoma, the land of the Redman..... ( we have a dozen Indian Reservations around my home, and more Casinos than you can shake a stick at )
