YouTube Classic is offered as a solution but I find that extension to be a pain. Can no longer use the video player that use entire page width but you're back to postage stamp sized player. It was perhaps a little bit faster to ready the video for watching.

Breitbart? Seriously? You're actually quoting Breitbart on a technology-related messageboard? With, y'know, like actually legit knowledgeable members?

The article seems to cover it as well as any other website though.

Here's article about it from a tech website:

I did some performance profiling via the dev tools both in chromium and in firefox loading the same page on youtube and I cannot say I notice much of a difference. Firefox was slightly slower until reaching idle state but time until rendering of the page was about the same. YMMV

Seems Google is retaliating against M$ for making Edge the default browser in Cortana, Timeline, etc in Win 10, with Mozilla Firefox being the collateral damage, eg ... https://www.howtogeek.com/226638/make-t ... d-of-bing/
https://www.makeuseof.com/tag/windows-t ... e-firefox/

Google had also previously similarly retaliated against Amazon for boycotting Google products.

I think Google should also use Android to boycott M$ and Amazon.

Trade wars = Tech wars.?

At this point, Microsoft has no choice but to tread very carefully. They aren't a monopoly away from desktop computing, so either they make nice or people will forget about them entirely, which is a prospect that honestly I would enjoy thoroughly.

Google has a history of doing things they ought not to, I'll grant you that, so it's conceivable they could be engaging in, or have engaged in, a "tech war". However, this all has the ring of politics to it, which of course is a Thema Verboten here on LMF.

I wonder, is the Linux user unble to verify the truth by yourself?
Windows assumes I'm stupid but Linux demands proof of it

YouTube playing tricks on Firefox

Post by karlchen »

Google and Youtube are really evil.
I cannot really tell when it started. For the past few months, in random intervals, right after starting Firefox a Youtube tab will be opened magically and play >> this << on my headphones at full volume.
There is nothing I can do. The tab will not close before the last song has finished. Really weird and frightening.

Look at that layout that never changed in 20 years. Google sure never forgot the reasons for its own success in the web search-engine market and how their predecessor killed itself off. Imagine the latter had stuck to its initial layout:

There probably wouldn't be a Google today.

<right or wrong?>
Back on topic: "Mozilla Exec: Google Slows Down YouTube on Non-Chrome Browsers"

Well, the Mozilla Exec is right and he is wrong at the same time.
Here is the final proof (Really?). Youtube (?) slows down a video. Deliberately. But not only on Firefox, on any browser.
The result is so crappy.
But see and hear yourself: Slowed down music
Topmost comment reveals it:
This has been SLOWED down... is aweful
These Philistines.

Users trying to trick content fingerprinting. Youtube just blanks the audio if it detects it and has no license for it. Also you owe me a new set of ears, that was gruesome. :P
