How did you come up with your user name?

Post by exploder » Thu May 24, 2007 8:24 pm

My user name goes back to when I drove a 1991 Ford Explorer. The Explorer had around 260,000 miles on it and the whole bottom of the truck had rusted away. Also someone had ran into the back of the Explorer and bent the passenger side rear fender and hatch so bad the insurance company considered it totaled.
I wouldn't get rid of the truck! I kept patching it up and fixing it up. My Wife insisted it was junk and started calling it the Exploder".
I loved that truck, it even survived being in four foot deep water once! I drove it home when the flood water went down! It did ruin the starter, but again I fixed it.
When I needed a user name for message boards I used "exploder", in remembrance of that old truck.

How did you come up with your user name?

Niksa was my childhood nickname (Nikola) and Vel comes from Velicanstveni, which was my 1st Dungeons & Dragons character nickname when I was a kid (Niksa Velicanstveni)... since all the ancient AD&D games supported only up to 8 characters for a name it was NiksaVel in all the Eye of the Beholder series... one of my all time favourite games :D :D :D

During the years NiksaVel is all that remained of my nickname throughout the "cyber-world" :)

heh... maybe I could get Eye of the Beholder to run under linux... hrmmm.. haven't played it in like a decade :)))

My school friends called me bigdee way back. The reason - dee is for D for david and I am BIG - 6 foot 7 inches (2 meters plus) in my socks.

Pretty obvious really!

My user name, here and many other places, is AntiqueXray. The XRay part is easy; I'm an Xray tech. Now for the antique part, and no it's not because I'm an old Xray tech. I'm heavily involved as a volunteer for the Vintage Division of the Experimental Aircraft Associaiont, eaa.org; it was once called the Antique/Classic Division.

Some volunteers use radios to to aid in communication (private FM freqs) and have taken unique handles. In honor of the division once called Antique/Classic, our handles start with antique.

If you're lucky, you get to pick your own name. If you've done something dumb, someone gives you one (like my wife who dug through a dumpster looking for a $50 rebate--she's now known as Antique Dumpster Diver--shortened to Antique Diver ).

Well I was born with mine :D But my longtime handle has been neuromagic. Its a combination of two things. First part neuro is from my all-time favorite book, Neuromancer by William Gibson. The second part magic, is from my love of fantasy. Pretty simple eh?

I've used a bunch of nicks in different forums, but have mostly (?) used husse.
husse is swedish for master as in "His masters voice" and until recently that was the case
We had a collie dog (dead a long time now) and two cats (unfortunately both died in kidney failure after we moved house)

Boo is my nickname that all cool people call me. 8)
some people have even forgot my real name, which make is real fun to try to explain to a PA/sectary that the callers name is Boo. LOL.

People think it originated from all sorts of things but the real answer is the non-PC story (if you are into all that PC stuff).
It is the shortened version of Jigaboo, which is obviously too long for a nickname so ....
This name came from the great swearing wars of 1997 in a shared office. Ummm those were the days.

Now where was i going? Oh yes, crazy!

Wh1sper was grounded by my very first internet experiences, well - modem experiences - with a device called whisper-reader.
It may by in the late 7o' or 1980. This name was my online-gaming account but I've change it to Wh1sper because someone in the states already had chosen whisper...
