Re: Rain Finally
I am very pleased for you that you have had rain. None of us could survive without water.
Here in Australia we too are in need of rain. The State I live in has been 100% drought-declared. That means no fresh produce and no food for the horses, cows and sheep. The wildlife is coming into the built-up areas in search of a green blade of grass to eat and many end up as road kill. I hope that the needed rain comes soon. When you have had enough, could you please make the wind blow the rain clouds from Texas to Australia?

Re: Rain Finally
The southeastern quadrant of the U.S., particularly Florida, has been getting a fair amount of rain.
I've never really understood why governments insist they cannot go the desalinization route. Australia always seems to be at least somewhat short on water. California could certainly use large quantities of water.

Re: Rain Finally
They spent gigadollars on a desal plant here some years back. It has yet to fire a shot in anger. It's been raining here the last couple of days, which has been desperately needed given the fact that it is just about the end of winter.

It was done in Syderknee too for political reasons. Yet another expensive white elephant.

Cooee from the Hunter Valley Wine Country. Wine - yes, water - no.
Standing on a beach you see "water, water, everywhere but not a drop to drink". We all waste a lot of water by not filtering and re-using water which would be more economically feasible rather than desalination.
The State of South Australia did this in 1999 with the establishment of the Virginia Pipeline Scheme and intends to expand this venture.
Other States pump their waste water out to sea - talk about waste.
The main handicap regarding Australia is its size (about the same as the US) but with only a very small population - we just made it to 25 million - and a lot of desert. Mountain ranges play an important part in creating rain. ... but I do love those open spaces

Re: Rain Finally Has Stopped
So - Today is a Dry Day, and we can get some housework done, finally.
it's been raining all week & is forecast for all of this coming week too.
therefore - everything around here is Green,, Green,, Green ..
& about time, too,, as things have been So Dry for So Long Now.
the Local Farmers are Rejoicing about their Bountiful Harvest, that is expected in Just a Few Weeks Time.
there is talking of sending some of their Harvest to Export & for some of it to go East,
- for their fellow farmers, to enjoy it.

Re: Rain Finally
That would be a most appreciated and welcome gift
For those who don't know, Australia's west coast is about 3300 km distant from the east coast as the crow flies and 3934 km by road. That is why it takes a while for the wind to blow the rain across from west to east.

Re: Rain Finally
We have had lots of rain here in the U.S. Midwest. Wish I could send some to you folks that need it. I've never seen a corn crop and soybean crop like this year. Perfect mix of lots of rain and plenty of sunshine and heat. On the down side, I'm already taking a beating from the 'bumper crop' of ragweed, my allergies and asthma are unhappy.

Australia is about 2,485 miles wide. It is also about 2,398 miles long, from north to south.kyphi wrote: ⤴Sun Aug 12, 2018 4:10 pmThat would be a most appreciated and welcome gift

Re: Rain Finally
We've had a bit of rain in the mid-north of South Aust which has been sorely needed. Hopefully some of it makes its way east. Not, too much, though, IYKWIM

"Drought relief convoy of trucks carrying hay leaves WA bound for stricken NSW farmers".
you beat me to it - - -as just reading that article, from the ABC .. ..
- the Town that they left from, is just up the road, from here.
The convoy will travel across the Nullarbor, a journey of more than 3,500 kilometres,
& arriving in Condobolin in NSW's Central West on Friday.
EDIT: the 22 Trucks, each pulling two trailers, left at dawn - - and were filmed for tonight's news.
EDIT2: and yet another 14 Trucks, coming up from Tasmania to Tamworth as well.

Re: Rain Finally
Ya'll have it worse than we do here in this part of US. We are in stage two rationing as of now, the rain was a joke and but a tease. We can walk across the river and not get wet.
