Cannot find Windows 7 wifi driver

Post by thedarkboy77 »

Hello, I installed Linux mint and Windows 7 a few days ago on my Asus X551MA laptop after my hard drive died. On my old hard drive, I had Windows 8.1. On Linux mint, all of my drivers were automatically installed, except for the screen-off/closed-lid driver. On Windows 7, my wifi pci doesn't work. Its registered number is ER0042864/10 and the dealer number is DA0042862/10. I tried to install multiple drivers and none of them works. On Linux mint, the driver installed is the rt2800pci. Does anyone know the equivalent driver for Windows 7?

that Windows Operating System can be a real PiTA,,
- when it won't install from it's available list of Hardware Drivers,
so, you do need to determine just what the make & model no. of that WiFi card,
and then get the appropriate driver from the hardware manufacturers site.

this, is often not as straight-forward as it may seem, as you then need to run a Hardware Detection Program,
in order to get the correct Hardware Information, in order to find the correct Hardware Driver Software.

- - in that I've spent many frustrating hours, in finding the correct Hardware Driver Software,
for many Windows Based Computers, that have come across my desk. . ..

Bear in mind also that the manufacturer may not have ever bothered to release a driver for an older version of Windows.

Usually, if you try to "downgrade" a system to a version of Windows it didn't come with, you're just asking for trouble.

This worked a treat for me. I downloaded and unzipped it on Mint and then ran it in windows. Perfect!

Yeah - - I've also used that since my win-xp days.

from memory - the programmer / company is Russian Based :o
& as such, there would be heaps of American Folks, who would have an issue with using their product.
- - at one stage, of my use-age, there was an issue with the Help System not being English Based - - ie: Russian.
yeah - that did, indeed take a bit of guesswork, when reading those Program Screens ( next / cancel / pause )

originally - - it was called "DriverPackSolutionsOffine",
- as it was an Off-Line Solution to all of your win-xp Driver issues.
these days, it's only available as an On-Line Solution:

Thinkcentre M720Q - LM21.3 cinnamon, 4 x T430 - LM21.3 cinnamon, Homebrew desktop i5-8400+GTX1080 Cinnamon 19.0

I would *never* trust drivers coming from some random, quite probably inscrutable 3rd party, and I think you'd have to be out of your mind to use anything coming from Russia that wasn't highly-vetted open-source.

I finally managed to make my wifi work on Windows 7. It was asking to download and install from Windows Update.

that's good - - that windows update sometimes does actually fix things
8)
chuck in an Restore Point for good measure, as you know things are currently working A.ok.
