Re: Internet Relay Chat turns 30—and we remember how it changed our lives
I first used IRC in 1995 or 1996 when I'd gotten my first ISP.
Back in the 80s and early 90s, I was a regular participant on FidoNet and a number of its echoes.

Usenet changed my life more than IRC did... after all that's how I met Mr. Moem! But IRC and I go way back as well, and I still use it today.

A certain other message board is how I met a now former girlfriend. Facebook is how I've met and made many really good friends, and now the possibility that one of those friends may become a bit more.

Goes to show how wrong your impressions of people can be!
I use a steel ruler. Nothing but the best. My other favourite tools are a Leatherman Wave and a Thinkpad X201. Anything else you want to know about me?

Still a usenet fan, and it's not all old-timers!
Been on Usenet since it's 3rd year.
I have travelled 35629424162.9 miles in my lifetime
One thing I would suggest, create a partition a ~28G partition as /. Partition the rest as /Home.
When the system fails, reinstall and use the exact same username and all your 'stuff' comes back to you.
