i just copied some wiki page war of the last hundred years didn't even know what these Troubles were, i was wondering later why Vietnam wasn't even mentioned. didn't mean to pour salt and pepper on your thread, i was also involved in the Gulf war for a short time at the ending. seems people love using guns and explosions in real life and in movies.
NASA says we need to colonize Mars because we are a curious people and have to explore to learn. they say we made many advances and the technology and knowledge gained in this quest for the stars gives us cures for diseases better agricultural practices and quite many more intellectual riches for mankind.
i say why can't we fix our planet first and learn from the mistakes of older generations instead of spending gazillions on space exploration. do they not realize that wherever we go we bring destruction and chaos. i'm still waiting for that hollywood movie where we as a united people explore and meet aliens without war and destruction. why can't we have some super hero movies without having to watch cities being destroyed.
Mission to Mars 2000 was a pretty positive movie where there was no human deception involved if i remember correctly and the only negative elements were natural disasters. i was watching some interview about the new Venom movie, and the most common complaint was that it was rated PG-13. imagine that, people complained because there wasn't enough blood, guts and destruction.

Re: Old Old Songs
I don't know the typical age demographic of this message board, but I know in certain circles "older" music means stuff from the 70s and 80s.
In fact, of late I regularly hear people talk about some contemporary piece of Pop music that "they grew up with" or that "came out a while ago" (etc.) in the 1990s.
I try and keep a positive outlook on all of this by remembering that, in cat years, I'm dead.

Re: Old Old Songs
I might be in one of those "certain circles." The '80s were my teenage years, and back then I considered anything from mid-70's rock backwards "old" music. However, as I've aged and become a hobbyist musician myself, I've learned to appreciate the art from a different point of view.Portreve wrote: ⤴Sat Oct 20, 2018 6:54 am I don't know the typical age demographic of this message board, but I know in certain circles "older" music means stuff from the 70s and 80s.

The earliest material I regularly listen to nowadays is early and mid '70s experimental electronic music (Kraftwerk (here's a pre-Autobahn performance of theirs), Jean Michel Jarre, Synergy, etc.). On rare occasions, I might watch a performance by The Mamas and The Papas or Kate Smith.
There is one "old" song that I like, though: Hoagy Carmichael's "Huggin' and Chalkin' ", from 1947.
