Reputable Free DNS Server Sites?

Post by Gualicho32 » Mon Oct 29, 2018 8:44 am

I know that it's good to start out less ambitious with exotic DNS locations, but is this "Best DNS" a reputable website? The lack of documentation makes me a little reluctant to use any of the servers in the lists.

I use opennic,, which is listed in your link, so that's something. Whether is reputable or not, I don't know.

hi Gualicho32,

The site you linked appears ok at first glance, I recognize many of the open/free DNS servers they list, however it doesn't give much info and is missing a new and very good/fast DNS from Cloudflare. Regardless, if searching for DNS it would be good to have some other demographics (like speed, uptime, quality, dnssec avail, IPv6 DNS, etc)

like they do here:!dns-resolvers

searching for public DNS will return tons of links to sort through and geolocation type restrictions may cause issue in some cases (hulu, netflix, banking, etc) so again I mention Cloudflare DNS. read about them here:
Cloudflare DNS wrote:Unfortunately, by default, DNS is usually slow and insecure. Your ISP, and anyone else listening in on the Internet, can see every site you visit and every app you use — even if their content is encrypted. Creepily, some DNS providers sell data about your Internet activity or use it to target you with ads.
We think that’s gross. If you do too, now there’s an alternative:
(I add to mention, I've not used my ISP DNS servers for a very long time and although I have no trust in google to not sell all data they can for $$... I did use their open DNS ( and for much of that time due to speed and uptime. I use my VPN provider DNS primary and backup use, if not connected to VPN I use and as alt.

Hope this helps!
