now they have screwed up Office, which ties in directly to what my daughter has been complaining about because she spends 95% of her PC time in Access
I do wish there were a Linux equivalent to Access,
Office yes, OpenOffice is terrific, and better IMO than LibreOffice
It seems that Microsoft just can't stop tripping over its' own feet

While I suppose it would be nice for there to be a libre drop-in replacement for Access, you can bet Microsoft will continue to do all it can to keep that from happening.
I'm very glad I don't have to deal with any of that crap in either my professional or private life.

Yep - using Access is an problem, & you can't even run it under ./wine either.
the fact that M$ is getting more & more 'wobbly' is yet another reason, to why we are seeing even more folks over on "this side".
yet another 'ph call, from a guy whose missus has "bought an new computer" and it's so very different.

This is what happens when professional managers take over the top management of companies.... no one actually gets anything done properly because all they care about is maintaining profit margins and no technical objective or goal is safe for longer than 5min.

This is all part of the plan. Microsoft is making sure that errors crop up in Windows and Office so when they change their kernel to Linux, every Windows user will say, "FINALLY!"

I am running Access 2010 under Crossover and it works fine. I haven't tried the exotic ODBC connectors, but basic functionality works fine. Haven't tried with native Wine but it should be possible.

Re: It seems that Microsoft just can't stop tripping over its' own feet
I have tried several times to get ACCESS 2003 to install, even turned off the internet, to prevent it from seeing the world during the install...
so far, I have not been able to get it to install...
somewhere, I have a CD with Office 2007, need to find that and see if that will install with Crossover.
on my 2nd day of the 14 day trial, so best get on the program.

I can confirm that it runs on Cx-18, but I didn't try installing on Cx-18. I installed on Cx-17 and later upgraded.Pierre wrote: ⤴Sat Nov 24, 2018 2:07 amdid you try that with the later Cx-18 version - as well ?Mage of Maple wrote: ⤴Fri Nov 23, 2018 9:25 pm I am running Access 2010 under Crossover and it works fine.
