Re: 4K.. yes I do..)
I have a 4K TV on my wish list but so far there are no free view 4K channels on satellite or cable bar the advertorials.
Re: 4K.. yes I do..)
I don't have even the wish.. that's why I give some links on Youtube.. and because someone there wanna always tell me that "You don's see in 4K".. well, I do..I have a 4K TV on my wish list
I just have 4K monitor, and not exactly a very powerfull PC. It's Ryzen 3 with Gigabyte RX 560 4GB and 16 Gig of RAM. It's definitely not enough for 4K
with 60 fps. I can not find any information if the Processor is bottleneck or the Graphic Card. Yea.. and I have 47 Mbit Internet speed..
Here are some interesting Information on the video quality:

I am wondering if the following two videos are relevant:I can not find any information if the Processor is bottleneck or the Graphic Card.

Re: 4K.. yes I do..)
There are no GNU+Linux native, libre Blu-ray players. Therefore, even if I had a Blu-ray drive I couldn't play anything¹ that would support 4K.
For that matter, what's the present state of high-def GNU+Linux desktop environments (or whatever it is that in principle lets one's system take advantage of ultra-high-res monitors)?
It will be nice one day when all the stars align on this subject and we have something akin to the resolution we see on smartphones.
¹ Notwithstanding any 4K YouTube content.

Re: 4K.. yes I do..)
Thank you for directing my attention to the issue.. have never thought about that..There are no GNU+Linux native, libre Blu-ray players.
There is one: the issue with the fonts. We don't have it here, but some smaller Distributions, look terrible on anything les than full HD monitors.whatever it is that in principle lets one's system take advantage of ultra-high-res monitors
As for the content.. you are right, at the moment, Youtube, Netflix, or Blu-ray players.. A movie with 4:4:4 chroma sampling, without any compression in 4k is 500 Gig.. with all the compression tricks: 50 Gig.. The biggest issue is with the satellite broadcast, they just can't push that amount of data trough. So internet and fiber optics is the future.. so.. the weakest point is our internet connection speed.. and, when you go for the whole supply chain, the new cameras and other gear are really expensive.. just look up for Jacob and Katie on instagram.. since they made the best quality youtubes at the moment.. for all the people who stuck with slow Internet: please search on Youtube for "microtrenching".
Edit:Do7Feb.13.08:
Cinnamon have it.. It's starts look more interesting when programs like Gimp, Kdenlive, Blender, Ardour have support. I did manage make simple cuts and render some video in 4k with Kdenlive. Can remember reading something about Ardour support for HiDPI on Phoronix.. Can't say too much about the games.. I did install on the hardware (see above in my early post) X3 Terran Conflict from Egosoft.. obviously it's an old Game, and it looks like any other programm with no support.. with miniscule fonts and map and so on.. but I have 30..60 fps in 4K, sometimes when I fly trough heavy fog, I have some stuttering.. but it is still very beautifull. For that matter, what's the present state of high-def
Yea.. and:
I am not sure if the updates did override it with new mesa or what..sudo add-apt-repository ppa:paulo-miguel-dias/pkppa
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt install mesa-vulkan-drivers
sudo apt install vulkan-utils

Wow.. there is a reason this lens cost 2.5k.. reminds me of an effect I remember from my childhood, when you have a picture on an airbaloon, and when the air is out.. suddenly the picture is very crisp.. I think it's the same with filming in 8k, and then if it converted to 4k you win in quality..All the footage was recorded by us in Montebello, Quebec, Canada . With a Sony a7iii with a 100-400 GM lens. Footage converted from HLG HDR to PQ HDR
