I'm trying to shut down my system like I've always done on all my Windows PC's - Right click windows logo at bottom right of screen then select 'Shut down' in the dialog menu.
This PC has been doing this every since I installed this new-to-me (bought from Ebay) motherboard. It makes no difference what the BIOS is set to.
pc is not shutting down properly in windows 10

Re: pc is not shutting down properly in windows 10
So what is happening?
Are programs being terminated?
Are you getting a pop up window that asks you to "Force Shutdown" like below?
You can try running this command in the command prompt which will FORCE a shutdown immediately.
Windows 8.x and 10 does not have a normal S5 type shutdown.
But it is a type of hybrid of shutdown & hibernate called "Fast Startup".
I use Windows 7 but from what little I have used windows 10 I can help as I have windows 10 on the PC I made for my nephews.
You can also disable "Fast Start up by typing "Control Panel" into the search bar, find "Power Options" and double click it, click on the link to the left "Choose what the power buttons do" and then click "Change settings that are currently unavailable"
Uncheck "Enable Fast Start up" and click Apply.
Now shutdown will do a shutdown.
