The Goal of Canonical
Was it the goal of Canonical/Ubuntu to come out with a concept similar to Apple having one's Ubuntu Desktop sync with ones Ubuntu iPhone and Ubuntu iPad and having the Ubuntu iCloud?

No. Apple's business model is mainly to make money from selling sleek hardware and software that are tightly controlled. It's like making money from selling luxury sports-cars and hand-bags.tweetybird wrote: ⤴Sat Jan 05, 2019 6:08 am Was it the goal of Canonical/Ubuntu to come out with a concept similar to Apple having one's Ubuntu Desktop sync with ones Ubuntu iPhone and Ubuntu iPad and having the Ubuntu iCloud?
Canonical Inc/Ubuntu makes money mostly from support services revenue, similar to Red Hat Inc/RHEL. ....... https://www.ubuntu.com/support/plans-and-pricing

....... Some money may be made by selling Ubuntu as the preinstalled OS, eg Dell computers preinstalled with Ubuntu. ... Companies that want to run Ubuntu Server LTS for more than 5 years, ie past the free EOL date, will have to pay for extended support.

In this one sentence, you have summed up the whole of Apple's post-iPod-era business strategy. (As someone who bought and used Macs since 1986, I remember when this didn't used to be the case.)michael louwe wrote: ⤴Sat Jan 05, 2019 7:34 amNo. Apple's business model is mainly to make money from selling sleek hardware and software that are tightly controlled.
