Free Dialup?

Postby Gunmetal_Ghoul » Sat Jul 11, 2009 10:52 pm

Is there such a thing as unlimited free dialup or is it all Netzero related? If they do exist, I'd like to know.
Life's too short to keep things in their "out-of-the-box" condition....

Netzero is not free, it is very inexpensive though. Netzero offered their service for $9.99 a month at one time, not sure what they charge now.

Netzero was a Canadian company when they had 100% anonymous Internet connections via NYMS, changed after 9/11 (the next day..)
Sorry, that company name was zeroknowledge; only the timing was suspicious..

Believe me, no one is more disappointed about this than I am, but right now there simply isn't enough market buy-in on the premium services to justify the network's operating costs. :-(

As a business, we are focusing on the product that customers and partners want. Here's an official Zero-Knowledge Systems statement on the matter:

With the release of Freedom 3.0 [zeroknowledge.com] and the discontinuation of the Freedom Network (our anonymous browsing and encrypted pseudonym service) there have been a number of questions for more details about the decision to stop offering the Freedom Network services. Hopefully this will help clarify things.
...
There has been speculation that this decision was somehow related to government pressure or was made in the wake of the tragedies of September 11. This is simply untrue For the past 3 months we have been beta-testing this version with partners, getting certification from Microsoft for our drivers and completing our Alpha and Beta cycles with our beta users. Support for the Freedom network offering was removed from the client code base well before the recent tragedies of September 11.

Netzero and Juno both used to offer the free (10 hrs. a month). I've used them until recently,...when I think the service has been discontinued. When I logged into my accounts,...I would get taken to a screen that was promoting the paid service. I can STILL use them both for free e-mail accounts,...just not dial-up. The cheapest dial-up that I've found (which I am right now using in Linux),.....is VTISP.

.... (150 hrs. a month). Cheap enough for me

You might find some info at this site....It sometimes gets a bit out-dated,..but it's where I learned about little "cheap" dial-up (that works in Linux)....
