Contact the vendor. Search google. Contact the manufacturer. Read the manual.

...quick search shows the nest products have known lag issues.

Product states it needs 2MB/s (16mb/s?) connection for proper streaming to your device.

Owners/reviewers have stated that the lag seems more pronounced when passively streaming the video.

Try making an active call/conversation with a helper at the door bell..supposed to be better once in active mode.

Also try turning the resolution down if possible to see if it helps with lag. (Obviously won’t help with quality of the video)

What a great reply!

I recommend research prior to purchase. Legitimate customer reviews help. There are so many options these days!

I sometimes do, but it depends largely on the attitude of the person asking.

There should be two modes of operation.

1. Access the camera remotely, to just look around the door area. This seems to be were more lag in the video was reported.

2. Have someone ring the doorbell, and have the other person answer it remotely on their device (phone, tablet, etc) to interact with them. See if the lag is the same, or a little better.

Also, if this is for someone else, have them verify the speed of their internet connection. As previously stated, the device is looking for a minimum of 16 mb/s.

is there another way to verify speed?

On a laptop or PC.

Some phones and tablets will have a bit of a hit on them.

Example:
My PC’s all speedtest out at 71/71 up/down consistently
My iPad typically tests around 56/46.
My old Droid Raz’r tests around 27/13.

Try to use a laptop or PC to test the speed in/out of the house’s router, would likely be the most accurate representation of what their service/equipment is capable of.
